You don’t really need to be an F1 racing fan or even be aware of what actually goes on in the sport to truly appreciate this film because what it depicts in its two hours of runtime isn’t something that's exclusive to its arena. This story is about how our rivals sometimes bring out the best in us when we've got something to defend or overcome. One of the best sports dramas to come out in recent years, Rush is a surprisingly good & highly satisfying ride that delivers the goods in just the right doses with its vibrant pace, kinetic action, arresting music & solid performances from its lead actors.
Based on true events, Rush is an ingenious recreation of 1976…
"It's a lovely way to live, and the only way to drive; to live each day as if it's your last." - James Hunt
One thing that strikes you about Rush is the heat it gives off. The smouldering rubber, the ever-present cigarettes, and of course, the white-hot rivalry between its two protagonists. There's immense pleasure to be found in the sharp quipping and odd admiration between the two polar opposites; one passionate and all about speed, the other controlled and all about statistics. Howard's film succeeds in bringing Hunt and Lauda's relationship to vibrant life, and isn't afraid to shy away from the darker side of both of them.
The opening is something of beauty. A simple opening scene…
An hour into Ron Howard’s film about the heated rivalry between Formula One drivers, James Hunt and Niki Lauda, and I was struggling to understand how it had achieved such widespread critical praise. It possessed all the verve and finesse of a typical Howard picture with a clunky script to match. Yet, come the story’s pivotal turning point and the film quickly shifts gear and becomes a different proposition entirely.
The battle between Hunt, the talented playboy, and Lauda, the analytical professional, ranks as one of the sport’s finest rivalries which culminated in the incident-packed 1976 season which left an indelible mark on both men. It is hardly surprising the story appealed to Hollywood as it featured glamour, perilous danger…
Ron Howard strikes again. This is the fourth movie of his that I've given five stars to. And I know he can get really cheesy and overly dramatic with his movies but it doesn't seem to bother me in the least. As for Formula One, I've never been a fan. I don't know, the sport was never too popular where I come from and it didn't catch my attention more than a few minutes when it was on tv. I didn't know anything about Lauda or Hunt before watching this, which I believe helped the experience a great deal, constantly keeping the suspense at very high levels. The movie has its flaws (all of which are less worrisome when considering…
Rush is definitely one of the best movies of the year so far. You don't even have to be a racing fan to enjoy this movie! I wouldn't say I'm a fan of Formula 1, but I am familiar with it. My dad is a huge fan, so occasionally I'll catch some bits & pieces of the races. I do like it, I'm just not big on it. Regardless, you literally don't have to know a single thing about F1 or racing in general to enjoy this movie. And that's the beauty of it.
The title says it all. This movie is exciting, interesting, and obviously a rush. Howard manages to tackle the difficulty and danger involved in Formula 1 Racing.…
The Formula 1 season of 1976 is brought to life in this gripping film by director Ron Howard.
Detaling the rivalry between British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Austrian Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl) on and off the track, Howard has crafted an exciting and tension filled film. Bruhl takes the acting honours but Hemsworth proves there will be life after Asgard with a strong performance as playboy Hunt.
Recommended for racing and non-racing fans alike, this is a thrilling and ultimately touching story of two extraordinary men who pushed each other to the limit.
lmao my dad was real proud of me for watching this film cause I'm finally 'appreciating' formula 1 but little does he know I wouldn't have watched it if daniel brühl wasn't in it...what a man
Sehr interessanter und spannender Film über den Konkurrenzkampf zweier Rennfahrer u.a. Niki Lauda
"I didn't just win the biggest thing in my life so I could get right back to work."
Two very distinct movies jammed into one, with everything being a tad uneven. Still an exhilarating crowd pleaser, though they did only give Natalie Dormer like 5 minutes of screentime.
Exciting and inspirational. The racing sequences are intense and well done. Great casting for Lauda and Hunt; I enjoyed watching their rivalry and relationship evolve.
While I still enjoyed the dynamic between the two leads for the most part, Howard's direction definitely began to wear on my the longer the film went on... He's a very good journeyman director, but he lacks a unique voice making his films not have much rewatch-ability...
As a biopic, Rush takes what seems like a pretty superficial viewpoint on James Hunt and what drives people to competitive car racing. Peter Morgan's script is clunky with exposition and a stumbling, too-long lead-up to the 1976 Formula One season, the meat of the story. Throw in the unnecessary voiceover and complete inattention to the female characters beyond their basic "wife" or "girlfriend" roles, and this should feel like a completely disposable movie.
Yet, I found myself mostly enjoying the film once it became more focused in its deconstruction of Hunt and Lauda's rivalry. Ron Howard isn't a particularly exciting director, but he is a reliable one, knowing exactly how and when to hit key emotional beats so that…
Vibrante biopic sobre James Hunt y Nicky Lauda. Contado de una manera ágil y con una ambientación soberbia, se pasa como un suspiro. Técnicamente muy buena tambien.
