Z Storm II, Z風暴 2, S Feng Bao, Z風暴 II, 反贪风暴2, S Storm (2016)
Now apparently, and I didn't know this until I just looked it up, S Storm (which means absolutely nothing in the context of this film) is a sequel to a film called Z Storm that was released a couple of years ago.
So I did briefly wonder if the reason why I didn't like this was because I was lost. But I really don't think I was - S Storm is just shit. It's a very, very bad film with absolutely awful acting from almost everyone involved except Bowie Lam. At times I'm pretty sure I sensed a tinge of embarrassment about being in this from him, and that would be fair enough because he's easily the best thing in…
Uninspired and frequently tedious thriller about a group of Hong Kong police investigating a large scale sports betting scam. Enlivened only by the gwailo actors, who were hilariously terrible even by Hong Kong standards.
If you watched this you know what a bad movie is. And you know what the German expression „fremdschämen“ means.
The ICAC (led by Louis Koo) teams up with a police squad to fight the gambling mafia in Hong Kong...
Fortunately S STORM didn't mean shit storm but is a small improvement over the last HK output I've seen. It's also not a sequel to Z STORM but stand on its own only carrying over Louis Koo's character.
The plot is pretty basic and well-paced without any surprises. For those who know their HK crime cinema will find the usual genre tropes like car chases, surveillance propaganda, melodrama and English speaking bad guys (consequently cast with bad actors).
Louis Koo - who can be a great actor - is totally on autopilot here giving us his trademark smirk way too…
These are a waste of Louis Koo's time. Maybe if they keep pumping them out they will strike gold eventually but for now this is the type of fare that makes people think that the HK film industry is dead.
There is no denying that there's a type of film that I can't say no to and that's film's like "S Storm." This is a sequel to a film called "Z Storm" from a couple years back. That film's biggest crime was, how forgettable it was. It was fine in the moment. It made me go "Yep, this is a modern day Hong Kong crime thriller about corruption." It was empty, but it was shiny. It had good looking actors and it looked quite expensive. As far as my personal taste was concerned, it was the epitome of polishing a turd. I've given it two stars back then, simply because it was similar enough to movies I'd like. I couldn't…
i don't usually watch these type of movies already and i sat through the whole thing just bc vic chou looks hot haha. the ending also feels rushed in a way where i feel like some moments could be milked longer to achieve its full emotional impact but ok.
Well, then. That wasn't an improvement at all on Z Storm.

Sigh, I know this is the sequel in the series, but there is like two minutes of setup and then it's just go go go. I miss movies actually introducing characters and such as I could not get into this at all because I didn't really know who anyone was, so I didn't care about them. Even the action was eh.
A TV style film. Poor plot and flat character setting. A bunch of copes chasing for football gambling group. Don't expect more.
This was the first film of the Storm series watched by myself. I found the pacing of the film to be quite irregular. I will admit the overall plot was exciting and I enjoyed watching the case tie together but the pacing in the middle of the film was poor. The emotional moments during the climax of the film could have been emphasised further with this and moments in the middle of the film could have been paced more effectively, which ruined the experience of the ending.
I enjoyed the aspect of the two parties collaborating to both reach their same end goal. I felt Luk's arc could have been explored further, especially with his professional background. Lau's sentimental backstory allowed viewers to feel sympathetic about his sister's part in his past. As aforementioned, this could have been concluded far better with improved pacing and the viewer would have felt more of an emotional attachment to the characters with this.
S風暴 (S Storm)

I am getting tired of these Chinese movies that look more like propaganda. Maybe I will take a break from these sponsored by mainland China.

it was good build up but then just when the pace starts to picked up the writers are like okai screw this and THEY JAM PACK EVERYTHING TGT AND ended so SUDDEN WITH VERY MUCH UNRESOLVED CHARACTER ARCS
A poor Tv style film that's found it's way onto Netflix. Don't be a fool and watch this film that not even interesting viewing big named Hong Kong actor Louis Koo
