Watched this a while back, around the time I got exposed to NoBudge, Alex Ross Perry, Defa, and all those independent directors who pointed me in the right direction.
The first time I saw it, I appreciated it on an aesthetic level. The spartan composition, muted color scheme, and impossibly subtle performances from the leads (I was familiar with Audley's more vocal and unhinged performances at the time) drew me in. This was incontrovertible proof that less was more.
Watching it now, after becoming acquainted with Bresson's work (an apparent source of Colvin's inspiration), I'm floored by every single cut. Colvin understands shot economy. This is a 71 minute film that does not waste a single frame of its runtime.…
