Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbot. That’s the review.
(Not a fan of the ending though)
you know a film is gonna hit when the premise is christopher abbott being controlled by women
I loved every single second of Sanctuary, a smart, sharp, and sensationally sexy love story for sickos that’ll have you both horrified and horny for 90 minutes straight. Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott are at the top of their craft here - a match made in masochistic heaven. You guys are gonna love this lol omg.
A sharp and silly and deliriously romantic single-location saga about a hotel chain heir (Christopher Abbott) who’s blackmailed by his long-time dominatrix (Margaret Qualley), Zachary Wigon’s “Sanctuary” unfolds like a kinky cross between “Punch-Drunk Love” and an off-Broadway play. The results are delightful and exasperating in almost perfectly equal measure until a last-minute hail Mary ends the movie on such a high that even its hoarier stretches seem like they were worth the walk in hindsight.
It starts with color swirls and a heart-stirring Ariel Marx score that sounds like it could be the overture of a musical; it ends with a rush of blood to the head. In between, it’s sustained by its performances. Not just the go-for-broke performances…
Equal parts perverse and tender, equal parts thriller and romantic comedy, Sanctuary is the honest scream let loose into the pillow when you just can’t take it anymore.
Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott don’t just keep up with the beat—they’re the fucking metronome.
