  Saturn eats its children. An essay on hereditary brutality. Incredibly sturdy, a film assembled through a dynamic of gazes that translate relations of power (people look at each other with such intensity in this film not only because of the battle imbued in the act of looking, but also because they administer the film’s rhythm and flow). Two hunters unable to speak going through the bestiality of the world with their violent physicality, a mirror that fights its image. A spectacularly well structured and transparent noir, it’s rare to watch a film so frontal and logical, where everything is exactly where it’s supposed to be, each and every element feeling thoroughly thought through and disposed of, a masterclass of a cinema that thinks as it shows. Not only an essay on familiar violence, but also and maybe especially on social and economic nets of power and how they sway genealogies of primal animalistic violence. Brilliantly forceful.

  Like a drunk driver crashing a wedding reception, this film knows where it wants to end up and doesn't care what it needs to wreck to get there.

  Ignoring the sexual assault scene (there will always be the pro- and anti- Irreversible), the movie lost me when the militant ecologist who defends lions falls in love for no reason with the cop who told her not to file charges after his lion killing friend pointed a rifle at her for an hour.

  There's a difference between complex characters and WTF-ism.

  The brilliance of this film is evidently lost on a number of people who seem to not be able to grasp the importance of cinema’s responsibility to reflect the truth of life in all its dimensions (to each film its own form and tone). The director felt a responsibility to show one scene of disturbing and realistic violence against women (she could have chosen to show more, but said she had to show just the first in the series of violent episodes in the story). Those who believe, for reasons for that I have to believe are either naive or problematic, that this is a sadistic choice, are sadly missing on a deeply intelligent, courageous and at times beautiful film…

  I really enjoyed this thriller because it's minimalist, it has a tense and original atmosphere and the actors are fresh faces. The film draws a line between hunting and femicide, but it's not too underlined in my opinion. I read the contrary, but I think the parallel is productive.

  The film was ranked in the top 10 of 2022 of "Cahier du cinéma", it deserves much more than the rating it currently holds (2.9).

  Just as its two half-brothers, the two halves of the narrative present complementary, not opposing, faces of male violence towards women. Mazuy presents us a kind of mirrored image of Verhoeven's exercise in "Elle" dedicating her female gaze to the male disturbing tropes never coming close to fetichisizing violence or abuse. Very conciously disturbing, the film is very intentionally paced and switchers gears and points of focus always with a lot of purpose.

  Teniendo en cuenta la cantidad de películas abyectas que ha dado este 2022, Saturn Bowling de Patricia Mazuy resulta ser la vuelta del revés a la propuesta deleznable de algunos cineastas debido a su concesión deliberada de un tiempo de acción a la violencia brutal y al despliegue de una propuesta formal anti-morbo.

  En el film de la francesa se acotan los escenarios de auténtica barbarie a uno solo; físico, tenso y duro de ver. Uno que supone el exclusivo y absoluto vistazo al asesinato a golpes de una mujer, bastando en su justa medida para establecer el comienzo de una exploración subvertida del muestreo de la violencia.   Le problème, quand on veut faire un bon film, c’est qu’il faut y croire. Or, dans Bowling Saturne, ceux qui y croient le moins, ce sont les acteurs. Personne ne semble comprendre ce qu’il doit faire ni pourquoi il doit le faire. Il faut dire que le film explore des terrains dangereux sans prendre conscience de ses enjeux.
  Non, on ne parle de viol à la légère, encore moins si c’est pour le mettre en image sans ne jamais revenir sur les consequences de cet acte.

  Bowling Saturne vise à être un thriller sombre et mystérieux avec des personnages torturés. Oui, il finit par en avoir l’aspect après une bonne heure et demie à s’accrocher au récit. Mais durant tout…

  Palmarès du film : c'est tourné devant chez Nino et on a un deuxième représentant de Caen en plus du gros bouffon de 40 piges qui fait encore des sons sur des godasses, des kebabs et sur les films qu'il regardait ado (des gens de plus de 14 ans écoutent Orelsan 😹😹😹)

  Certamente um filme que opera nos limites do excesso, mas Mazuy vai fundo desde o início na tarefa de concentrar um mal indizível dentro de medidas precisas, imagens que parecem formar círculos perfeitos sobre uma ordem perversa de mundo regido por homens violentos. Tanto que consegue traçar linhas que abarcam Tourneur, Terence Fisher e Claire Denis como se os três pertencessem à mesma concepção de cinema. Não consigo tirar várias imagens da minha cabeça, e ainda assim o que mais me assombra nesse filme é o movimento opaco que ele completa, signos pesados/graves que percorrem um fluxo estranhamente nebuloso, sussurrado levando àquela ironia final. Se visto como um conto alegórico, então, o efeito atingido pela mise-en-scene de Saturn Bowling parece mais absurdo ainda, porque não deixa de ser um universo muito concreto que assistimos. Mazuy segue um caso indecifrável, no melhor sentido.
