Terrible. I grew up in the MidWest, so I wanted to give this indie film a chance. Too bad it sucked.
There is nothing scary about this movie. This shouldn't even be considered a horror movie. Most of the movie is just people literally standing around talking. They're either talking at the library, talking at the bar or on their cellphones.
And even when the scarecrow finally shows up; the death scenes are off screen. Zero blood. Zero gore.
There are too many characters in this movie. I have no idea who the lead was suppose to be. On top of that, they kept introducing more characters for no reason. There is one scene where a teenager just shows up,…
Scarecrow County is John Oak Dalton’s second film as a director. I haven’t seen his first, The Girl in the Crawlspace but I have seen several he wrote for Mark Polonia including Shark Encounters of the Third Kind and Amityville Island. That and the rather tired killer scarecrow plot were not good omens. However, I did notice this had picked up some good reviews from its limited self-release last year and decided to take a chance.
Scarecrow County opens with a pair of idiots messing with a Ouija board and conjuring up an unfriendly entity. They end up dead and their house burnt down. Thankfully this isn’t done with CGI but what looks like footage of a firefighter’s training exercise.…
Working in a small-town, a librarian comes into contact with the diary of a bullied teen who killed himself from years ago, and when the residents start to mysteriously die in strange accidents she realizes a killer scarecrow has awakened for revenge forcing her to stop its rampage.
Overall, this one wasn’t that bad of an indie film. Among the better qualities found here is the fact that there’s an intriguing and enjoyable world built up here in this small-town setting. Playing up the idea of the locals with their own tortured past and the secrets coming to light through inconspicuous means, the idea that the prominent people in the town were responsible for his death and have covered it…
