In the West End of 1950s London, plans for a movie version of a smash-hit play come to an abrupt halt after a pivotal member of the crew is murdered. When world-weary Inspector Stoppard and eager rookie Constable Stalker take on the case, the two find themselves thrown into a puzzling whodunit within the glamorously sordid theater underground, investigating the mysterious homicide at their own peril.

yeah!!!! took me too long to get on the wavelength but dang did that ending get me. embarrassingly so! really enjoyed it. more movies should have their protagonists scoot around in a lil car that goes beep beep beep beep. incredible that this is tom george’s directorial debut film (though i know he’s done a bunch of tv.)
if you ever joke about someone being inspired by wes anderson on this site, a bunch of weirdos with no methods for fostering community outside of being smug will descend on you to demand you credit someone else or suggest you’ve never watched real movies. i know this. and still i must say…. uhh, wes much? the cast, the editing, the framing,…
seeing saoirse ronan and sam rockwell frolick around london in that little blue car has given me enough serotonin to last me the year and that is worth the 4 stars alone
"It's a whodunit. You've seen one, you've seen them all."
And they're always so great and witty and funny and original in their own way that I almost wish they were the only films being made.
My main complaint is the criminal lack of marketing this movie received, because it’s a hoot. A solid whodunnit that maybe isn’t earth shattering in its reveal, but it’s effortlessly funny and wraps in 98 minutes. A swell time at the movies.
Also, put Saoirse Ronan in everything
who do i have to pay to get the bloopers from this movie. because i will pay. i’m serious.
Cute! Wish I liked it more, especially considering that a theatre-related mystery with Saorise Ronan quirkily jotting things down in a lil notebook sounds right up my alley, but oh well
