Shadow in the Cloud is the best film I’ve seen from this year! Granted, it’s the only film I’ve seen this year. Directed by Roseanne Liang and starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Beulah Koale, Taylor John Smith and Nick Robinson, the story follows a female WWII pilot that encounters an evil presence on board a B-17 Flying Fortress. Having had its world premiere on September 12, 2020 at the Toronto International Film Festival, it was released today on VOD.
Being part creature feature, part war nightmare, and entirely dedicated to cutting down misogynist jerks, you would have thought that there would have been enough fun to power Shadow in the Cloud. But despite it’s rather entertaining premise and Chloë Grace Moretz…
Remember that scene in Clouds of Sils Maria where Juliette Binoche wants to get to know Chloe Grace Moretz’s character better so she goes to see the latest movie she’s starring in which is an overly-cartoonish sci-fi movie that’s so ridiculous there’s no way it could be a real movie? Well.... Miss Chloe Grace has come full circle.

Women!
This is dumb but fun... but really dumb... but also really fun. It's got a classic b-movie mentality with reckless disregard for sense and logic and that works in its favor because boy was I engaged and super entertained. Shadow in the Cloud is a genre masher. It's difficult to get into this without spoilers but there are two major reveals in this film that are both beyond ridiculous. Add that to the cheesy CGI, the bizarre stunts, the funny action scenes, and the silly dialogue and you've got yourself a god damn delight of a picture.
Absolutely yes.
IM LOSING MY MIND AT CJLOE GRACE MORTEZ GIRLBOSSING HER WAY THROUGH THIS. THIS WAS AN ACTUAL MOVIE THAT WAS MADR THIS IS LIKE REAL
Over the top, unnecessary and stupid. This is THE guilty pleasure of the year. Every couple minutes you ask yourself "What the fuck is going on?"
Absolutely hilarious. I had an amazing time watching this. Would recommend for the so bad it's good movie crowd.
Bonus points for the score.
Guess whose drivel made it into Year in Review? 😳😅😎
But let's talk about less important things. Like this movie.
It was actually really fun. Moretz was good and she was playing a character that was easy to root for, seeing how the story threw her right in the middle of imbeciles. For the most part of the first act they found a cool way to hide the low budget and when they stopped it resulted in a moment so ridiculous it sinply has to be witnessed. Bonus point for the nice synth score.
Clouds that lacked precipitation.
The movie is about a female WWII pilot who encounters an evil presence on board, while travelling with top-secret documents on a B-17 Flying Fortress.
The movie starts off in a very artistic manner as it gives you the perspective of maude who is stuck in the turret and is seeing something that keeps bothering her which escalates tension and creates a very creepy and a claustrophobic environment.
Style over substance seemed to be the theme here which is followed quite nicely in the first half, but as the plot moves forward it starts getting messy and drowns itself to mediocrity. With no balanced engagements marking maude as your one and only savior.
A feminist movie…
Holy f**kin moly!! 2 very enthusiastic thumbs up. Such a wild ride that just gets crazier and crazier as it goes along. As the trailer and poster scream at you, it’s an “absolute blast” and “pure popcorn fun”. There’s something on the wing of the plane, I friggin love that episode of The Twilight Zone, I love that this flick takes that premise and runs with it into crazy and campy territory. So good. So so so so good!! I’m so here for these women kicking monsters ass movies.
