Shes The One - Tagalog
A true Star Cinema Production for one of Philippines screen hunks with the catchy name Dingdong Dantes. Here opposite the popular Bea Alonzo. They are best friends, and guess what? Deep down they really love each other, but are afraid to say so. But while the are trying to man-up for the reveal, Bea gets smitten by younger charmer Enrique Gil and things turn complicated. But guess what again? Gil also has a best friend whom secretly loves him....
For those not used to modern romance movies from the Philippines, let me explain how they work. It POURS in the emotion! The scenes are excessively smooth and adorable only to break your heart in the next 2-3 scenes, and then…
I watched this at the only theatre where they show Filipino movies here in Toronto! Can you believe this is the first time I watched in that cinema knowing I am a big Tagalog movie fan? I saw groups of non-Filipinos who cracked up and enjoyed the movie as well.
I ACTUALLY LIKED THIS MORE THAN I THOUGHT I WOULD! I have to say though, Bea and Dingdong have 0% chemistry: didn't quite hit jackpot for me (also with that story, OMG who came up with this screenplay?). I must admit the performances were much better than anything else in the movie. At the end of the day no matter what the technicalities or the problems of the movie may be, if you enjoyed the movie, you enjoyed it. I did. Bea is like one of my favorite Filipino actresses. She's truly talented and perfect.
It is so painful to watch especially because Enrique and Bea have no chemistry at all. But for the record I didn't watch this voluntarily so no expectations were set, it's just that it's lowkey cringe-y and not that amusing
I was really pleasantly surprised by this movie, it's not good by any stretch of the imagination. Once you get past the silly plot involving way too many side characters, the main characterisation and acting is actually really solid.
If I weren't so blown away that this seemingly terrible movie was actually affecting me, I think I would've cried at the end.
Also the eyelights made me happy
