Yes! Good! Really enjoyed that!
There’s so much to like about Jeff Nichols’ debut Shotgun Stories. It’s extremely tight, a simple yet engaging story, and the characters are fantastic. That’s due in equal large part to the script, and the performances. Michael Shannon continues to just be dynamite in everything I see him in.
My only real gripe with this one is that thematically I found it a bit unclear and slightly unfocused in terms of balancing the different themes going on. I wish it was a hair more specific, but definitely glad that it wasn’t banged over our heads for the duration of the film. That aside, I really enjoyed this one, and I am definitely excited to see what else Nichols has in store, as I believe this is my first taste of him!
