Rajinikanth and Shankar join hands for the first time and deliver a wholesome extravagant commercial entertainer with less logic and full of Rajini magic, blending his trademark vigilante (this time on corruption and black money), social commentary with solid masala elements. The movie is loaded with entertaining elements; a strong script, engaging narrative, witty one liners, hilarious comedy, foot tapping music, breathtaking cinematography, rich production design with loads of bossy Rajini style moments. The first half is loaded with fresh comedy and drama while the second half is your high octane Rajini style rags to riches story with a social message. Weeeee! What a mess! The first 90 minutes are an awkward love story in which a very rich Rajinikanth forces himself on an unwilling woman played by Shriya Saran. There's an amazing action scene set in a music store filled with comically large instruments and a fun musical number about how it's great to have white skin (Yep) but that's about all I liked. The rest was...uncomfortable.
BUT THEN
After the intermission, Writer/Director S. Shankar (ROBOT) kicks things into high gear as Rajinikanth's plans to build a hospital and university are derailed, so he decides to COMPLETELY REINVENT THE TAMIL NADU STATE INTO A SOCIALIST PARADISE - and he does this by stealing all the rich people's money and beating…
