This movie is very much like Top Gun with weaker subplot, weaker cast but way stronger plane action and landscapes. Top Gun being a classic for many, if it's one of yours, you definitely want to check this movie out. The images in the plane sequences are gorgeous.
Not bad for French air force propoganda. Pretty great cinematography, non existent plot.
Spoiler free: the director of Taxi did a French top gun, it’s super dumb, really fun and has a tremendous amount of phenomenal Mirage 2000 footage. Which matters, because it’s a tiny, twitchy, shrink-wrapped delta wing with a high roll rate, producing oodles of incredible vortexes at all speeds from all surfaces, making it for this purpose perhaps the most cinematically photogenic jet to date
One of the pilots owns both a 997 and a tan Citroen Mehari. 4/5 stars would watch again

Spoiler review, mostly trying to process this batshit story; which as such may not be spoilable:
A french fighter jet is supposed to be stolen from a massive public airshow as a test because the French CIA…
I wish they just released the fantastic plane footage in a 40 minutes YouTube video, but they had to attach some weird film to it.
The plot isn't particularly complicated, but it's delivered in an oddly confusing fashion and the tone is kind of uneven, with some mild attempts at drama sandwiched between cringe sexy comedy skits.
Editing is also poor.
Tbh though, i just ignored all of that and just waited for the next flying scene.
If you like seeing planes fly around, this has some of the best footage of that i've seen.
a lot more ace combat than the original top gun was anime, but still not enough ace combat lmao. beautiful cinematography and choreography in the air, sucks in everything else on the ground. nonsense story; i mean: HOLY SHIT THIS STORY. and wtf is w these attempts at romance and relationships lol. every character just suuuuucks. jets were <333, tho. ok, whatever, byeee
French "Top Gun" wannabe with some nice practical aerial stunts but not much else. Bonus points for random striptease on a plane scene shoehorned between all the boring plot expositions.
I take a certain perverse delight in enjoying the extremely uncool, cringeworthy and obnoxiously low-brow aspects of French culture, like this moronic but highly entertaining Dick Flick produced with the full cooperation of the French military-industrial complex.
Chock full of truly spectacular aerial photography of unrivalled quality - not a single CGI plane in sight. They apparently put five separate 35mm cameras in a pod thing on the bottom of a fighter jet and had the operator control them from the rear cockpit. An extravagant technical marvel.
Leave your ethical concerns at the door to fully enjoy this barely-disguised recruiting tool - and be prepared to squirm uncomfortably at the horrific sexism that was apparently acceptable in movies only 15 years ago. Don’t worry, they’ll stop talking soon and it’ll go back to the planes and stuff.
1ère vision (2005) : Au cinéma, sûrement au Gaumont Nantes avec Véronique.
2nde vision (2006 ?) : En dvd avec Pierre.
