I've been waiting for this and I'm not disappointed. This monster horror film offers a completely unique story that carefully explores the themes of grief, bullying, and child abuse. The opening of this film is pretty intense as we see this young boy and his older brother playing this game that immediately raises questions, they slap each other's faces pretty hard as a way to deal with their inner hurt. The film focuses on their life after their parent's death. The thing that really make this works so well is the great performances, especially from the child actor. They portray two different coping/grieving situations in a very relatable way and the abusive relationship feels so real and heartbreaking. The film…
I feel bad rating this so low, because it's a well-intentioned film, BUT, I honestly didn't enjoy it whatsoever. I like the idea, but it just feels like something made by a group of junior film students, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but in this case, it just feels like they wanted to make something deep and clever, without considering all the necessary aspects to elevate the material to something more mature and profound. They take a really simplistic approach to these dark themes, and the horror elements of it are very weak. In addition, this story is told through lots of clichés of the genre, so there's nothing really outstanding or unique. Maybe if the relationship between this…
I remember when Columbine happened, the initial response from the public was a perception the shooters were bullied which accompanied a "well what do you expect" follow-up that basically borderlined on "the bullies got what they deserved."
This was all dispelled later when we learned that the shooters were popular kids and sociopaths. But the just out-of-the-gate defense was more an acknowledgement of a monster that is created from being bullied and abused that we all can relate to.
I first rolled my eyes at the ridiculous title Slapface, yet grew to appreciate the described abuse that instigates the horror. There's no hiding this films messaging and intentions (even up to the pre-credit text about bullying as soon as the…
Sometimes few films just cut too deep with it's objective and very precise stance onto something very sensitive that's worth checking for..but at the same time, few cinemas just won't be able to tackle the hurdles of their powerful materials which, at first place, they've pin pointed. SLAPFACE certainly presents a promising idea but without any grip on it! The execution wasn't even upto the mark, monster's attire seems a complete amateurish and I never have heard such constantly annoying thumping in undertone of a very serious but awful background score. But what's really rewarding in there is the subject, that's total dope! The presentation of trauma and abuse in a child's mind HERE has found it's exact shape and…
Complicated grief is ugly, it will tear your soul and rip your heart out. It will be tenacious too. You won’t even know it, until you’re feeling empty, and that hole is aching. But as the minutes, seconds, days, and months pass, gingerly, time will try and return some of those pieces. The pieces returned won’t look and feel the same. But they will somehow try to fit and you’ll try your best to get along with them. “Slapface” is not your ordinary horror film. It deals with loss, grief, bullying, and repression of feelings. The main characters are two brothers Tom, the oldest, and Lucas, the youngest. Each don’t know much about dealing with emotions and how to process their feelings.…
This one is centered around two grieving brothers living in a house in the woods after the death of their parents. They are both struggling emotionally and don't have a support system around them. The youngest brother befriends a sort of "grief" monster cause his older brother is shitty to him and his so called friends are even worse! Those fucking shithead twins! Noone was likable but that fit the overall bleak and depressing tone of this film. The monster looks decent but its nothing special. Slapface is predictable but it's watchable on a rainy Thursday afternoon.

Being brought up by your teen brother, it's offkey. With a let's get our frustration out by playing slapface.
Lucas is a little bit naughty, but the lad misses his maw. Leading him to feel bonded with a right wicked one, he is deliriously having a fun time, until well its not.
Let's talk about this wicked one, she moves so violently. I'll give her that she protects what she covets. I couldn't help myself, I really liked her.
Did the twins grind your gears?
