A very UNUSUAL film to come from Merchant Ivory.
Made me think of BASQUIAT (1996) as it is situated in similar artists circles in Manhattan, New York. Robert Altman's PRÊT-À-PORTER (1994) also comes to mind and it is really hard to look at the locations without associating to Woody Allen, of course.
Based on short stories, published in The New Yorker, from the author Tama Janowitz, who wrote the screenplay and also has a small role in the film.
Bernadette Peters is absolutely adorable as the heart of the film.
Steve Buscemi has a small but significant part and he is ALWAYS a delight to watch in any film.
I enjoyed the film, not just Bernadette Peters' acting.
