After a hard day of volleyball at the beach, a teen whose parents are away decides to have a slumber party with her girlfriends. Their boyfriends predictably show up to scare them, but a stranger from the beach is also seen lurking around the house. Soon the group begins experiencing an attrition problem.

So this starts out like one of those USA Up All Night b-movie teen beach sex comedies before turning into an insanely ridiculous but somehow entertaining slasher.

I'm shocked by how much I enjoyed this entry in the eternally awkward Slumber Party Massacre series. As if it couldn't get weirder than Part 2, it steps back into a more traditional slasher motif but the staggered dialog and bizarre human behavior makes Part 3 almost as strange as it's predecessor. Another super sleazy low-budget entry into the SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE film series. I can't say I loved it all that much even with the thing dripping with filthy sleaze from its every pour. Then you factor in all the red herring they throw at you with an abundance of weirdo creepy motherfuckers to choose from which is done to hide a pretty obvious culprit. It's a cheap and dumb slasher but it's still fun. It neither goes for the over-the-top insanity of the second entry, nor does it go for the biting satire of the original. It just kind of aims at being an okay, by-the-book slasher, with characters that make incredibly poor decisions.

Low budget slasher goodness with a ridiculous amount of red herrings - all creepy dudes - and some inventive kills - a vibrator in the bathtub electrocution, a for sale sign impalement. Widely considered to be the worst of the Slumber Party trilogy but I prefer its more straightforward slasher approach to part two's Elm St. ripoff goofiness. That's not really a slight against the second one though; this is a great slasher trilogy without a dud entry as far as I'm concerned.
I don't understand Shout/Scream Factory's handling of this series. They released the entire trilogy together on DVD. Then, the first one got a standalone blu-ray while 2 & 3 got a double feature release. Now 1 & 2 are together on a 4K release while part 3 remains out of print. Can we at least get a rerelease of this as one of their overpriced site exclusives so I can upgrade from DVD?
After the batshit crazy antics of the first sequel you can only reach expectations in amping it up from there. Sadly, the two new female writer Catherine Cyran and director Sally Mattison downplayed things more to be in vein of the first film.
And even that was a misunderstood comedy.
It's a straightforward slasher flick made at the tail end of the eighties when the MPAA ratings board was very scissor-happy against on screen violence. The only way to watch this is the unrated longer cut as the R-rated version omits plenty of impactful gore. You'll get some extra unneeded filler too, but every kill is spiced-up with extra short insert shots of drills ripping through flesh among other things.…

A bit bland compared to the first two. This is definitely my least favorite of the trilogy, but it’s still decent. The vibrator bathtub electrocution is my favorite kill for sure.

Everyone’s “sleeping” on this trilogy. All three films, all directed by women, are surprisingly solid pieces of slasher filmmaking. With enough camp, sleaze, and frights to fulfill any horror fan’s expectations. This third entry definitely feels like the most serious take on the slumber party gone wrong which was a nice departure from the wild ride that is part 2. Other series like Leprechaun, Texas Chainsaw, and Hellraiser could’ve taken note on how this trilogy decided to approach it’s sequels.
Often forgotten, I think it’s time that the Slumber Party Massacre franchise gets its due.
Spotted Oscar winner Wally Pfister's credit as second unit cinematographer. This is certainly a handsome looking slasher comedy with bold use of color, lights and shadow. Clearly influenced by the visual stylings of Carpenter's Halloween in that final sequence.
One-shot director Sally Mattison delivers her own pizza party by sticking with the choice toppings of Amy Jones' original slashic. Final girls who are down for the nudity and an equally galvanized driller killer ready to make them pay. Pours on melted cheese and lots of thick red sauce. Yes, that carpet will require some professional attention. 7.4/10
I'm really on the fence if I liked this or not. It's kinda ugly and once you realize what the killer is talking about, it gets even uglier. It also feels empty and cold, there isn't enough sleaze and it feels like there's a gore cut hidden somewhere because this movie was begging for more gore! There's too many red herrings thrown in there and it becomes obvious pretty quickly who the killer will be. It's a weird movie, weirder than the weirdo at the beach watching them all play volleyball and weirdly drop off the address book as he creepily peeping tom'd them only to get caught being a weirdo and then killed and stuffed in a truck. So much happens off screen and feels completely missing from this movie. I get why the killer was tortured but his motivation, no freaking clue! You really can't top the electric guitar drill rockabilly sequence of the previous movie.
This movie just FRUSTRATES me!! The killer is blinded at one point and...distracted by other things....ugh btw....and the three other girls just stand there and watch, I guess?? No that's ok just let him molest your friend and then murder her with a drill, and you just stand there...did I mention the dude was blind?? I pretty much wanted everyone to die at that point. Shame too because this was a fairly fun slasher up until near the end when everyone just went stupid. I mean even dumber than the usual slasher character stupid.
