സോലോ, சோலோ, Athadey, Solo tamil
An experimental anthology representing the four different facets of Lord Shiva (mythological God) - Earth, Fire, Wind & Earth. The movie is aesthetic with outstanding performance from Dulquer & exceptional music.
World of Sekar (Blind Love) -A love story set between a stammering man & a blind women. Though the story is good with a heartwarming climax, the lack of depth doesn’t provide it’s intended emotional impact.
World of Trilok (The Cyclist) -A well written cold revenge drama with a twisty plot set around human morals.
World of Siva (Ties of Blood) -The stylistic direction tops the story here which is set around anger, underworld & family emotion. It’s starts promisingly with its dark humor but then loses track, until it picks up itself…
The best reason to watch this middling anthology? Dulquer Salmaan; who goes from hesitant to ruthless to romantic effortlessly.Of all the roles,Trilok left the strongest impression on me!
Anthology films are rarest of the rare in Indian cinema. I am clearly very late in discovering this film, but I am pleased that I finally did.
Music and Cinematography are the biggest assets of this film. Bejyo's writing and direction style are good but somehow lacks depth at times. After a point, it became repetitive! For me, The Cyclist story was the biggest surprise. That one moved me the most.
There is a lot of cynicism and philosophy in these stories and I am glad this movie exists.
Also, those Lord Shiva artworks! Wah! Aham Brahmasmi!
Solo, the bi-lingual anthology film from Bollywood filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar, is not an experiment gone wrong per se, but is littered with bizarre moments which are either embarrassing or enlightening, depending on the sensibility of the viewer.
Starring Dulquer Salmaan in four different roles, 'Solo' sounds like a misleading title for Nambiar's film. But, it is essentially about different avatars of one supreme entity, clearly revealed as Lord Shiva. Shiva's status as a demigod in Indian mythology, is translated on screen through the committed all-round performance from Dulquer. He totally nails this four-fold interpretation of Shiva, with the basic constants of extreme rage and extreme love transcending the character, story and its all-encompassing hero. Granted, he is again asked to…
Underrated and overlooked
Holy shit this movie
All i needed was a little more consistency
Dulquer Salmaan is such an effortless & versatile actor.
I feel like when it comes to the movie, one will either like it or hate it. Fortunately I fall in the former. This movie is pretty brilliant. One may not realised it while watching it but when you breakdown & analyse the metaphor, imagery, colours & various aspects of it, you will appreciate & enjoy the sheer brilliance.
Impossible how I don’t remember a lot of these shots from first time.
It’s going to stick with me second time around.
Best one being the blood soaked silence of Shiva , everything has impressive Dq and beautiful songs.
