This is a very strange movie. Some parts feel like one of those passion project movies made by someone who has no experience in the industry, like Breen or Wiseau, except the movie is directed by Nicolas Cage and features several notable actors. It almost reminds me of Threat Level Midnight.
I’m finding it hard to judge. The whole thing feels off, and I can’t tell for sure if it’s artistry or incompetence. A few moments work. There are scenes where I can very much see Cage’s direction. But why did they make this movie? Like, why this script? Why this story?
I spent large parts of the movie fascinated by how such a weird, strange, bad movie had been made, with a few moments of actual interest in the story and characters.
Is this movie a glimpse into Cage’s psyche?
