I really love this film.
It says a whole lot about what we value and why we value it.
There are great twists and turns and the ethos of the filmmakers seem to always be right; focus on the craft, not the bullshit that surrounds it, wealth can corrupt and make a fool of you, that wine, like many things, is a subjective science and those who know don't care, and those who care don't know.
My love to the filmmakers.

The levels of schadenfreude in the third act of this movie watching coked out bazillionaires desperately trying to convince the camera crew that they still know how to sniff out legit wine is almost dangerous to the fabric of society. I mean, if we keep seeing Bill Koch giggling embarrassingly in his literal wine dungeon possibly wearing an adult diaper under his pleated khakis, we might stop believing these people are our betters or something.

I love watching rich dickheads lose hundreds of thousands of dollars on pretentious counterfeited wine made with an HP Inkjet printer, Rudy Kurniawan is a hero

rich white men getting scammed and whining about it? brilliant. incredible. amazing. show stopping. spectacular.

My favorite parts are a) old rich white guys getting duped out of millions of dollars and b) how much that investigator loves his dog. 5 stars.

if you liked either of the Fyre Fest docs or just found the topic of high society fraud interesting i’d def recommend this one. even more so if you’re a bit of a wino yourself and want to see how the new age auction business functions. it’s not very intense, but competently put together to make this first public case of wine fraud out as a significant crime. 

i never heard of it before but this is HUGE. my geeky dude Rudy pulled off a wine heist and duped all these rich morons into drinking cheap shit and pretending like they knew their wine. couldn’t help but laugh at their (literal) tastelessness. he did badly but the fact that he pulled it off for so long by just kinda winging it... impressive 🤷🏻‍♀️

Straightforward telling of an incredible story, like the world of fine wines meets The Talented Mr. Ripley. As rich producers and dot-com douches and a Koch brother were aggressively pursuing rare bottles on the wine auction circuit, an imposter was supplying them with convincing fakes. What's fascinating here, per Tom Ripley, is that he had an exceptional palate and could blend cheaper wines into a persuasive simulation of the real deal.

Near the third act I realized that this may be the first story of fraud in which I do not feel the least bit bad for the victims. If you have the ability to spend one million a year on your wine collection at the bare minimum, please, educate your palate.

My heart goes out to the wine producer....
But I can’t help but kind of like Rudy. It’s such a comically corrupt and ostentatious world that it’s tempting to cheer for the conman who comes in and defrauds them all 

It also made me sad to see all of his bottles be seized and destroyed cause it was such a waste of wine hahaha like bro give it to me I’m sure it’s still yummy

Solid documentary about an interesting topic, told in an entertaining way.
