i was asked to do punch up on this movie and repeatedly pitched a bit in which lebron james goes through the sisterhood of the traveling pants franchise. “he and bugs could wear the pants” i said. “maybe they run into america ferrera and say something like ‘hey, nice pants’.” after an hour of interrupting pauses in the conversation by mentioning scenes from the franchise that lebron could travel through i was told to “cool it with the fucking pants shit.” they asked me to focus on rewriting porky’s rap and i wrote the bar “team is known around the world from seattle to france / we’re gonna pass you on the board like some traveling pants” and malcolm d.…

I have spent several hours now performing an exorcism on myself and I still only feel marginally better than I did when the lights came on and I emerged from the interminable hellscape that is this fucking movie. It is a million times more apocalyptically bleak than you could possibly imagine. It plunged me into a very dark place I have yet to recover from. Almost entirely worthless. The experience of Space Jam: A New Legacy feels like you put HBO max on shuffle and it played every piece of media on the streaming service for exactly ten seconds and then switched to the next thing. And honestly, doing that would still be a better evening spent than watching this soulless exercise in content management. A New Legacy takes Warner Bros IP out of context and scrambles it for the purpose of constructing a mashup commercial. Often it feels like a spreadsheet or a checklist given life as a motion picture. This isn't exactly a surprise, considering that Space Jam operated in a similar fashion, just on a much smaller scale, but it's weirdly directionless, failing to actually do something with the branding in a way that The Lego Movie or even Ready Player One provided.
I watched this in the cinema stoned with like 8 of my friends and all I can remember is that this was fucking amazing
