If you discount the unnecessary songs in between which almost always annoy you, Special Chabbis is a nicely made Heist film. Though Akshay Kumar is the hero, actors Anupam Kher and Manoj Bajpai persent their roles with much more maturity and skill. Akshay struggles to come out of his normal Priyadarshan type roles though.

Neeraj Pandey has done a fabulous job of recreating the Indian cities from the eighties. The background score, keeps up with the pace of the movie and keeps the audience engaged throughout as well. At times it feels the plotting is taking more time, but towards the end its justified.

It feels nice to see Bollywood films are coming out of the glamorous shell, and giving out content which is not stereotypical, but intricately woven. Something which has no unnecessary romantic angles, nor an overdose of pitiful comedy.

Looking forward to such films in future now...

I really really enjoyed this film. Akshay Kumar was really good in this. Love watching his films. Did not know about the events this film was based on. Jimmy Shergill was really good as well. It had me on edge all way though. Loved the songs. Defo recommend this it is on Netflix UK. 4.5/5

Above average Bollywood movie with an interesting enough plot. Kinda rips off ocean's 11, but at least it has some Indian flair.

And I have to say that I thought I knew the twist but I was wrong. Enjoyable experience.

A very good movie according to the Bollywood standard, but Neeraj Pandey, you are not the same man who made A Wednesday. You have also fallen in the crappy trap of fake but sweet love stories, I sincerely hope that the duration of trashy love and even trashier songs in your films decreases with time, but the signs are bad already. Every song is bogus and every expression of love is extremely stupid, but otherwise, this is one taut movie. Shows what Akshay Kumar is potentially capable of, and how pathetic the quality of directors really is in our country to not utilize him, but churn out shit like Student of the Year/Murder 3/Jism 91/Race 56.

good caper with enough mann influence (i. e. dedication to the job, having no time for personal relationships) and is firing all cylinders to be entertaining. the aesthetic of the period is cool too.

Slightly over edited and it's the same caper over and over again in a way, but I was thoroughly entertained.

Very breezy due to a sparse amount exposition. The fact it was based on a true story made it very interesting and made for some fun post watch research.

forgot how bad the editing was

A little padded out with some amateurish creative choices but this depiction of a true story is tense, intriguing and well acted. I did love the camera always being dollied around too.

Four crooks pose as CBI officers and raid the homes of corrupt Government officials and take off with their ill-gotten cash and jewelery. None of the officials wish to lodge a complaint or admit to the theft for fear of jeopardizing their political careers. The crooks plan their biggest raid for their 50th effort - robbing a high-end jewelery store - but are unaware that a wily CBI officer is hot on their trail. A witty script, taut direction and a twist ending make this a fun-filled heist flick. The actors are all superb led by a suave Akshay Kumar, thankfully underplayimg, as the leader of the bunch, the hilarious Anupam Kher as the aging nervous partner, Jimmy Sheirgil and Divya Dutta as two incompetent cops and Manoj Bajpaye as the intense CBI officer determined to catch his prey.

The lack of sync sound is hard to bear, but if you overcome that feeling it's a very political and very well crafted drama. Manoj Bajpayee is the best!

Still pretty enjoyable

There is this sort of happiness that I got watching the protagonists, who are crooks in the film, get what comes to them, good things, as they make their own destiny through meticulous planning, after all this is a heist film. But unlike any.

You know Rick and Morty nailed the 'Heist film' music when all heist movie soundtracks sound completely similar now.

Classic. Neeraj Pandey knows his audience. Hilarious to see this after seeing Thaanaa Serndha Koottam.

So close to great.

This film is an excellent story inspired by the real events of the CBI Opera House heist in the 80s and wears its Heat influence proudly however is sadly brought down by the random inserts of a romance subplot that is extremely thin and ultimately uninteresting.

The film itself is carried by the performances of Manoj Bajpai and Anupam Kher as well as Jimmy Shergill to a lesser extent while unfortunately Akshay Kumar while still giving a smooth performance, is missing his depth of charisma from other roles required for the screentime he is given.

Inspired while not being a cop out or a slap in the face.
