The only other Larry Cohen movie I had seen before tonight was The Stuff, and while I understand the whole social angle of that movie, it just didn't click with me on that first viewing. Having now seen Special Effects, I feel like maybe I should give The Stuff another try, because my second Cohen movie was truly remarkable.
The movie has an amazing premise that, despite being made almost 40 years ago, feels very modern. It's a very solid thriller with some elements reminding me of De Palma.
