Three 30 something former nerdy gals get a chance to relive college spring break. 00s lady boner comedy gold! Im so jealous of Rachel Dratch in this, I had a big crush on Justin Hartley back then.
"I didn't bang that bouncer 47 times for nothing." -Missi
15 years after college, loser Becky St. Germaine (Posey) and her 2 loser friends (Dratch, Poehler) are sent on Spring Break to watch after a Texas Senator's (Jane Lynch) college age daughter (Amber Tamblyn). Chaos ensues and important lessons about self-respect are learned.
I will give this movie credit for successfully portraying the creepiness and filth of Spring Break destinations. There are funny enough parts in this, especially from supporting cast members Missi Pyle and Jane Lynch. Overall though, the message of this film is undercut by the hour of the film that is straight objectification, homophobia, and racism.
If you like spring break movies and are looking for something obscure and new, I suppose that you could watch this, but whatever.
You'd be forgiven, after reading the synopsis and looking at that poster, for assuming that Spring Breakdown is a pile of poop. Watch the film and you'll think differently. Written and directed by former SNL-er Ryan Shiraki, this film features all the usual cliches you'd expect from this kind of film, but they feel fresh and funny, due to good writing and excellent performances from Amy Puehler, Rachel Dratch and Parker Posey. Their chemistry is great and I laughed a whole bunch of times. What is It with the SNL girls and Hold On By Wilson Phillips? It's appears at the finale of this film and of Bridesmaids. Tune though.
I heard about this on some podcast, I listen to too many so hard to narrow down, maybe Horror Queers or Gourley and Rust
A Parker Posey movie I've yet to see? Count me in !
I enjoyed the heck out of this, nothing amazing sure but the cast is just enjoyable to watch, and they do that Bridesmaids song before Bridesmaids made that song that song
Some day somebody's gonna make you want to turn around and say goodbye
Until then, baby, are you going to let 'em hold you down and make you cry?
Don't you know? Don't you know, things can change
Things'll go your way
If you Hold On for one more day
Can you Hold On for one more day?
Things'll go your way (Oh, things'll go your way)
Hold On for one more day
Although this was completely cliché-ridden, it was also very enjoyable. Three thirtysomethings go on a "traditional" Spring Break, the kind they were too geeky to go on while in college.
I thought the introduction of the characters was very fun, and the film is off to a good start. It helps that I find Rachel Dratch unbearably hilarious, and just the tone of her voice can have me in stitches. Amy Poehler is fun as well, of course, and Parker Posey is wonderfully unsarcastic and I could see her appeal.
Once the film gets to the traditional Spring Break-y bits, it does get very formulaic, which is a shame. I really liked the depiction of female friendship, I have to say, and the two musical numbers were absolute highlights.
I watched this years ago when I was watching a lot of Amy Poehler movies in a row and I remembered it being very underwhelming but god.. this is SO! CUTE!! There are definitely some iffy jokes, but overall it's just so stupidly cute and charming. I love it a lot.
- the titles looks like iMovie
- Parker Posey and Rachel Dratch my loves
- hell yeah, dogs with little graduation caps
- would work better with less score
- wtf is this cast
- the audacity to say Amy Pohler isn’t hot
- how the fuck does Patty not know the policies of the senator she works for
- Will Arnett is blind, Seth Myers is gay
- Posey and Dratch staring in a movie makes it impossible not to like
- kanopy
- 71 minutes in the volume dropped heavily, and not on the tv
This film sat on the shelf for three years before being dumped direct to DVD. An excellent cast is wasted by a basic script & sitcom direction.
