“And you’re all astronauts, on some kind of ‘star trek’?” – Zefram Cochrane

Set 2 years from the events of Star Trek: Generations, Captain Picard and his crew are on trial runs on the brand new USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E, a sleaker, meaner, yet smaller ship compared to the Enterprise-D when a Borg invasion force has come to assimilate Earth.  Because Captain Picard was captured and assimilated by the Borg and oversaw the destruction of an entire fleet…

“We haven’t got time to talk about time!” - Drunk Deanna Troi

This feels so much more like a movie than Generations. It’s got one-liners (“Assimilate this”), non-stop action, more plot than ever before, and some of the best sci-fi compositions that I’ve heard from Jerry Goldsmith so far. I can 100% say this is by far the best Star Trek movie.

I won’t explain the plot here but all you need to know is that the Borg are back and…

This is probably only a ★★★ sci-fi action flick but I heart the next generation crew so much that this earns that extra ★ for just showing up and not being as shit as the previous entry in the Trek film franchise. Frakes at this point is a dab hand at Trek having extensive experience directing for the TV run and shoots the films many set pieces well, but with minimal flare.

The Borgs make for a menacing villain and,…

Action, horror, some laughs, this one has it all (almost). It’s the Star Trek movie that’s half zombie thriller, half time travel comedy-ish. The best of the TNG films and a fun revisit.

    ★★

Another poor attempt at making a Star Trek: The Next Generation movie that completely ignores any good aspect of the show and turns it all into stupid action schlock.

The film is very well directed and shot and contains VFX that still hold up today. There are also several fun and enjoyable scenes in the past segments and some moments of solid acting from Patrick Steward (That's a given to be honest) but all of is simply isn't enough to…
