Stay Cool is another lightweight and utterly forgettable comedy cashing in on the recent ‘80s revival. Mark Polish, the dullest leading man imaginable, returns to his hometown to give a speech at his old college. Whilst there old acquaintances are reunited whilst he attempts to impress his high school crush.
Featuring a cast of actors who made their names in the ‘80s (Winona Ryder, Sean Astin and Chevy Chase etc.) rather than being overjoyed to see them in the same film you’ll wish they never bothered. Astin delivers a broad, borderline offensive, performance as Polish’s gay best friend, Ryder as the would-be love interest doesn’t seem to care and I think Chase was just pleased to get film work. The big problem is that you’ve seen this story a thousand times before but told with better jokes, more insight and with actors that could give a damn.
