Actor/producer George Murphy, his assistants, and his 22 chorus girls are staying in the penthouse of a New York hotel. Although he cannot pay, Murphy has kept the suite because the hotel manager, Walter Slezak, is his brother-in-law, and he keeps telling Slezak that he has obtained a financial backer for his show. Gloria DeHaven, the star of Murphy’s show, sings at a nightclub. Frank Sinatra, who sent Murphy a play and $1,500 to finance its performance, comes to the penthouse and asks about his play and his money.
