  A truly wonderful underrated horror gem of the late 90’s. When it first came out, I don’t think anyone was expecting it to be as good as it was. The hype was pretty low key like David Koepp’s films tend to be and just like Secret Window and The Trigger Effect this turned out to be such a wonderful surprise and I think that just makes any film that much more endearing.

  Kevin Bacon plays a man struggling to find meaning in life, when he becomes obsessed by a cry for help from beyond the grave, in this forgotten 90s horror gem.

  You gotta love those 90s supernatural horror movie and how bonkers they tended to go with their effects and flashy, high speed body shaking effects and some weird and out of creative cheap jump scares where its not like these days when its just loud music and sound effects but cats jumping out of nowhere or someone literally appearing out of the blue just to jump into an stair and alley, and then those sons of b***hes laugh in the background.

  Coming out in the same year as The Sixth Sense is this supernatural thriller that just seems to have been completely forgotten about.

  Stir of Echoes might be clichéd but it is really well executed. The acting is great from both Kevin Bacon and Kathryn Erne. They had great chemistry and their marriage felt so real to me. The dialogue between them conveys so well where both of them are coming from whilst also showing that they care about the other person. 

  I was surprised how invested I got in the characters. The story gets pieced together slowly as it builds to a climax that really works.

  I highly recommend checking out this underrated gem if you are yet to catch it.

  I watched "Stir of Echoes" about two or three months ago and I was blown away by how underrated it was. At the time I wasn't able to articulate my thoughts on how I felt about it, however, just like some of my favourite films of all time I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Even still, after re-watching it last night I still can't quite find the words but I shall give it ago.

  Low key, but super effective horror. Definitely a hidden gem! We focus on a man who finds himself suddenly conscious after a hypnosis session; leading to revelations into the past. Stir of Echoes is a constantly interesting ghost story, with a great screenplay that evokes an involving mystery, some creepy horror and plenty of suspense. Kevin Bacon is great in the lead role, as his character becomes more and more obsessed with the new meaning his life has suddenly received. There's a real ominous feeling hanging over the entire film. Themes of digging into the past come to life quite literally!   March Horror 2021, Day 12, challenge #16

  I guess 1999 was the year of Seeing Dead People? This one has Illeana Douglas as a snarky hypnotist, Kevin Bacon in a Social Distortion tee and Paris from Gilmore Girls so you know it's rad. I like how it felt authentic working class; I can only take so many architects and ad execs being haunted in their McMansions. Also I think I need to move to Chicago, it looks like they're having a good time 24/7. (At least til the murderin starts.)

  The spooky little kid runs into the cemetery saying "whoa this place is cool!" My son! 😍 I freaking loved this movie. Nice supernatural murder mystery with good performances and a great sense of place.

  It's a shame that this film was released next to The Sixth Sense and is often compared to it. I always felt that was the reason why it got so little attention back then, which, in my opinion, is totally unjustified.

  This film is of the 'gets under your skin' variety. The premise is excellent, if a bit predictably worked out. But the strengths of this film do not lie in its originality, they lie within its visual style and Mr. Bacon.

  The film oozes a kind of grim and bleak feel that really got to me. Everything, from the colours to the production design, felt as if something wasn't right, was somehow otherworldly. Sure, this telegraphs things to come…

  A supernatural thriller about a man's obsession and the secrets that lurk in the dark corners of the soul, David Koepp's "Stir of Echoes" is a sturdy and effective piece of work.   So after 2 weeks I decided to watch a movie .
  Those who follow and read my reviews know what problem was but I think I feel better and I think I recovered .
  There were some moments where I felt distracted but not like before .
  But yeah Stir of Echoes is one ok horror that has some nice staff in it .
  Story was fine while acting was solid .
  Only some effects and editing was distracting .
