it's close to getting it. it's setup to rip on the evil, faceless space megacorp that bankrolls this mars expedition. the unseen hand that pulls the strings on these people’s lives. the capitalists that strip safety measures to fit a third body and the safety checks that would have found a concussed fourth. the organizations dispensing with humans to profit a dollar rather than spending a dollar trying to save them. was all ready to give this the benefit of the doubt because those elements are present and clear even if they were not going to be delivered on (seems it was just more interested in being a weepy melodrama instead). then those last two lines are uttered and i found out that was all an accident and joe penna is actually fine with all that.
Stowaway marks another success for Netflix’s ever-growing original slate. Feeling a lot like a classic sci-fi film, it isn't about quick, brainless action or aliens or even the thrill of 'which one of us is the killer', like many of us expect these days. Instead, the film is an exploration of what we would do if survival meant sacrifice. How some people turn and some people help. Anna Kendrick shines in the leading role with Toni Collette, Daniel Dae Kim and Shamier Anderson also giving three great, rather chilling performances to make up the cast.
It's slow and, of course, rather tedious at times given it's simplistic premise that can become slightly repetitive over the 116 minute runtime, but ultimately…
Toni Collette really said
-Plan A: Algae
-Plan B: Murder
And you know what? Nothing but respect for my Queen.
I'm a sucker for work-the-problem outer space stuff...astronauts in trouble is just intrinsically suspenseful to me, so I enjoyed this a lot. I found the ending rather arbitrary but maybe that's an MP not a YP.
People seem to be split on this one, but I think this is a solid dramatic sci-fi thriller. Yes, the topic of survival in space has been covered many times, and there are some fantastic films in this subgenre, but the moral question at the core of Stowaway makes it stand out. The crew are faced with an impossible dilemma, and the idea is absolutely a conversation starter. That, and there are some part of this film that are INTENSE. I wish this was something I got to see on the big screen - there are some beautiful shots here, and movies set in space just feel like they're meant for the cinema anyways.
Wish the ending had a bit…
How stupid was this guy? He didn't keep track of when a spaceship would launch into fucking space? Everything else was good though.

A stowaway on a mission to Mars sets off a series of unintended consequences.
This is a film that I appreciate more than I actually like. The pacing is purposefully slow, as the story takes its time to unravel. This can sometimes be the perfect way to unravel a SciFi film. The characters did not quite get me as emotional as they intended to, but the cast itself is excellent. Toni Collette’s Marina was slightly disappointing, but Shamier Anderson was a massive surprise. The idea of this man making his way into this situation is a refreshing concept, as it provides for some much needed tension sprinkled throughout. The subplot that…
Sorry dude. BIG disappointment in every way but hey no straight white males in the movie congratulations Netflix you´re getting there!.
