  Straight Outta Compton, in spite of all its flourishing dizziness and intoxicating radiance, is an electrifying study of a society in constant motion. As another entry in the ever-growing (and increasingly tiring) biopic subgenre, F. Gary Gray takes mundane conventions and obliterates any sense of snore-inducing commonalities and weak delivery. Just like the highly-influential (and fucking amazing) group who crafted the titular album, Gray's film is an explosion of dedicated performances, scrumptious visual/aural flair, and an understated mirage of shifting ideals.

  Still in awe of the fact that this even exists: A 2 HOUR 47 MINUTE Hip-Hop Epic overflowing with enthusiasm and empathy for the time-period and their subjects, packed with committed performances by a group of talented young actors, and a glorious layer of style that fits right into the sunny exuberance of the topic. This could've easily been a biopic equivalent to Notorious, but there's true growth and passion to go alongside the immense detail, expanding an already massive tapestry into a culmination of life experience and rich verbiage.

  Straight Outta Compton is a fantastic biopic. I absolutely loved this movie. This movie is just so fucking cool. Between the GREAT performances, music, and interesting story Straight Outta Compton can enjoyed by anyone; even if you're not a fan of rap music.   Las Vegas Weekly review. Has all the standard musical-biopic problems, but I confess that I enjoyed the cheesiness Gray brings to it. When Ice Cube hears himself being dissed, the camera pushes into his face as he starts ever-so-slightly nodding to an imaginary beat, brow furrowed, and you immediately know there's about to be a smash cut to him spitting "No Vaseline." And then there is, and it's glorious.
