If your not familiar with the band it’s gonna be very confusing to watch on top of it being a shitty movie with lots of fluff.
Narrated in person throughout the film by Artimus Pyle, the second original drummer for the band Lynyrd Skynyrd replacing Bob Burns, who played on the amazing first two albums, this covers the time before the fateful crash on October 20, 1977. The plane ran short of gas, an engine blows out and he plane goes down.
There is a considerable amount of foreshadowing. Ronnie Van Zant, the legendary singer, told Pyle he would die before he was 30. The plane has "blowback" issues where fire comes out of the engine in other flights. It's enough to make viewers wonder how or why such a successful band was flying in such a death trap.

Several number crunches during the film revealed that this story might not exactly be the “true” story.... for every long, exaggerated tumble (and there are a lot!) there is an exaggeration of the truth.

The Lynryrd Skynyrd plane crash has been covered quite a bit with several documentaries but this is the first scripted film to do so based on drummer Artimus Pyle's first hand account. It is a low budget film and the story structure does start off problematic, throwing us right into a few scenes with no setups or character introductions at all. The first act is kind of a mess but holds up with good acting and decent recreation of the feel of the era. Artimus Pyle really wants you to like his snorted take on Entourage. If 1977's Street Survivors somehow transmuted its beauty into an estonian, lifetime esque TV drama. Feels like Jeb Bush offering you weed at the skatepark.
There’s no real resolution, there’s not much about what the accident meant or how if affected the survivors, their relationships. Nothing. This whole movie is essentially just a dramatization of what happened, and damn I am so sorry but I actually kinda liked it. I feel like if that had been the goal, just a dramatization it could have been a short film, or an hour. There wasn’t a need for this much fat in a movie that didn’t seem to want to give the audience anything new to consider. There’s nothing from the account of the film you can’t find on the accidents Wikipedia page.
