Sam and Tusker, partners of 20 years, are traveling across England in their old RV visiting friends, family and places from their past. Since Tusker was diagnosed with early-onset dementia two years ago, their time together is the most important thing they have. As the trip progresses, however, their ideas for the future clash, secrets come out, and their love for each other is tested as never before. Ultimately, they must confront the question of what it means to love one another in the face of Tusker’s illness.

tender and intimate, if a bit lukewarm. colin firth and stanley tucci knocking it out of the park as usual. their palpable chemistry is bolstered by colin’s naturalism and stanley’s theatricality — good thing, too, because the scant plot is dependent on the casting of actors up to the task.
the story itself is one that’s (tragically) familiar: an older couple’s relationship is tested by the onset of dementia. however, it finds room to break new ground by making the couple in question gay. so many books and films and plays revolve around gay trauma, though that trauma is usually derived from homophobia. definitely a worthy topic to explore, but sometimes it’s nice to see gay people allowed to have…

gentle, tender, and sweet, but still not really for me! which is absolutely not to suggest it's bad, just that i rarely like these kinds of things.
a lovely drama. so simple it could've been a play, were it not for the gorgeous scenic shots. predictably great performances from col and stan (nicknames only; we're very close and good friends. might just text em right now. "hey boys. just watched your movie." "did you love it" "read 4:41PM")

Well this is just bloody gorgeous isn't it. Deeply felt but still played with a certain sobriety – Firth mines his pain so deep, and Tucci is just the perfect choice to telegraph the devastation of a firecracker life slowly petering out. A fear of loneliness isn't enough, a promise of unconditional love can't change the damage our minds and bodies force upon us. The exhale you breathe after finishing watching this is so, so full of love.

Supernova is a well-intended, yet ultimately hollow take on the gay romance that is barely afloat because of its somewhat memorable performances.
With a total lack of substantial plot, it usually takes the artistic visions of a director to kick start his project into motion, and it works mostly in the experimental arthouse circuit. For a production as mainstream as Supernova, both in terms of its star powers and its safe, pedestrian approach, Supernova for the most part feels like an over-stretching version of a short movie. The overused shots of the natural scenery as well as its monotone piano score only makes things worse by bringing to mind all the negative trademarks of a Lifetime movie.
