“a lot of people like to sing. you can sing”
was fully anticipating feeling mildly apathetic about this, but then they opened the movie with genesis by grimes and i was a fool by tegan and sara. back to back. this COMPLETELY won me over, from the saturated colors to the killer soundtrack. the right balance of hazy neon and introspective moments of quiet. i could feel the flaws under the surface, a little clumsy here and there, and cliche as well, but none of that phased me at all. and i do seem to enjoy the hell out of elle fanning no matter what kind of role she’s in
all in all, this was an absolute blast and hit just right: a vox lux reality show that’s much more digestible, or a really artful disney channel original movie. and i mean that in the most complimentary way possible
ELLE FANNING IS A HORSE GIRL WHO LISTENS TO GRIMES AND SHE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO!!!!!
not me crying over the neon demon x factor edition......... violet valenski really did that huh
“Teen Spirit” tells a story you’ve seen a thousand times before, but one that people will keep telling each other until we all believe it. In some ways, it’s as ancient as a fairy tale — a Cinderella fable about a shy girl from a small town who finds her voice and takes on the world. In other ways, the film is inextricably of the moment, set in the neon world of TV singing competitions and scored to the likes of Robyn, Elena Goulding, and Ariana Grande.
What’s so brave and exciting about Max Minghella’s directorial debut is that it refuses to compromise on either end, a sweet pop spectacle at once both proudly generic and unafraid to be itself.…
might have loved this too much bc it reflects my recurring dream of being a famous singer that i’ve had since i was a kid so yeah i related too hard to this!!!!!!! also every single sequence where miss elle fanning performed was transcendent!!!!! goosebumps literal goosebumps
max minghella directing elle fanning and then falling in love in real life? damn why isnt that my life
this movie is so textbook i’m surprised it wasn’t handed to me by my science teacher
