There's whisper of this film being made using the title from Edgar Allan Poe's short-story from 1843-49, 'The Tell-Tale Heart'. I say whisper because of the filmmakers' insistence that the feature is based on the short by the Master of Goth. The claim had died down to a whisper a long time back when Poe fans rushed to the theaters in the hope of watching the terrifying and psychologically harrowing story being adapted for screen and set in modern day.
What they got instead was a barrage of close-up shots of a human heart not beating, then beating, then a flat-line, again beating with help of cardio-simulators and pulsating ice. Lots of ice. A tub full of ice. The 80's…
I would say that this was slow moving so it made it boring, but that's not true.
It did move a little slow at some points but that really didn't take away the utter brilliance I thought it was. I like the whole idea of the plot and the cinematography kills it in this piece. Whoever was in charge of that is a brilliant person. Holy canoli. Each shot felt like some sort of art show with the lighting, the setting, everything. Not to mention I really liked the heart beat they played throughout.
The actors did brilliantly.
I really enjoyed it.
It gets points for a premise that sounds intriguing. It manages to fail at pretty much everything else though.
I picked up a copy of this because the cover said it was produced by Tony and Ridley Scott, hence it couldn't be bad...right?
Tell-Tale is inspired by the Edgar Allan Poe short story "The Tell-Tale Heart", and it is the tale of a man who recently had had a heart transplant. That heart belonged to a man who was murdered and that particular heart is taking control over his body to exact vengeance on those who were responsible for killing its previous owner.
The one thing I will remember from this film is how damn sexy Lena Headey can sound! Other than that it is a film that, despite its original premise, fails to keep me interested.
The thing with Tell Tale that made me dislike it so much now is that it's based off some writing by Edgar Allen Poe, with an intriguing premise, but still manages to be completely forgettable. I can't imagine anyone remembering this film 20 minutes after seeing it.
The film is just presented in a way that makes it so awfully dull. Everything just seems to be routine thriller work.
Okay so real talk;
I was carving pumpkins last week at a friend’s house and him and his wife were thinning out their movie collection and basically told me I could take whatever I wanted from the bags of movies they were getting rid of. So I went a little crazy and took whatever looked interesting.
On the cover of this Blu Ray, it said it was produced by the Scott brothers (Ridley and Tony, RIP Tony) and that this was inspired from Edgar Allen Poe’s short story The Tell Tale Heart. Which just so happens to be a short story that I love. So it was one of the many that I took with me.
I checked it out…
Tell-Tale purports to be a modernization of the Edgar Allan Poe short story The Tell-Tale Heart. (Although, for all that this is touted by the publicity, neither Edgar Allan Poe nor the story receives any mention anywhere on the credits of the film.) The Tell-Tale Heart is a typically Poe-like work of paranoia and madness, concerning an unnamed narrator who murders an old man and then chops up and buries their body under the floorboards. (We are never given any reason why the murder occurs.) Afterwards, the narrator believes that they hear the murdered man’s heart still loudly beating and is driven crazy by this to the extent that they confess to the crime. The Tell-Tale Heart has been filmed…
