This movie is surprisingly freaking good. Gotta be the best biography of an autistic designer of humane slaughterhouses ever made.
Whatever you're doing with your life, this film will probably make you feel guilty that you're not doing more.
This movie is feel-good, educational (if you know as little about autism as I do), fun, and inspiring. Also, downright entertaining.
You can hereby consider me an enormous fan of Temple Grandin (the person), Temple Grandin (this movie), and Claire Danes (who plays Temple Grandin, the person, in this movie).
I came to this after seeing Temple Grandin (the person)'s excellent TED Talk titled The World Needs All Kinds of Minds. Do what I did: see that. Then see this movie.
For one thing, you'll notice that Claire Danes does a spot-on impression of Temple's voice and mannerisms. You'll also become a believer in this movie: Temple herself loves it. Which is about as high a complement as I believe it could be payed.
the second most shocking moment in this movie was when a bunch of ranch hands smeared severed bull testicles all over claire danes’ truck. and the most shocking moment in this movie was when skinny pete from breaking bad popped up as a cowboy.
“i don’t want my thoughts to die with me. i want to have done something”
i might need to build myself a hug machine as well
I owe a lot to this film. Temple Grandin and an app called Fit Brains.
They gave me the two biggest clues I needed to discover that I am
# actually autistic. And not just a little bit. I am actually
Very, very autistic! Since then I’ve read books, taken tests,
and seen specialists. What a relief to know the truth!
All this time I mistakenly thought there was something wrong with me!!
But, nope. I’m just Neuroprismatic! 🧠🌈 And I fucking LOVE it!!!
3rd Mick Jackson (after The Bodyguard and L.A. Story)
Temple Grandin is a figure that looms large in the autistic world. She was arguably the first public figure to be known for her autism, and has made a career from speaking at conferences and giving interviews that has paralleled her own highly successful work in animal science. In many respects, she was the first light of the neurodiversity movement, certainly the first to publish her memoirs.
She remains a touchstone figure, in my opinion. While her animal work has rightly drawn ire in some quarters (she perfected humane slaughtering techniques for cattle, perhaps promoting the conditions that have brought us to the climate crisis), her presence as, quite possibly, aro/ace…
I didn't have the biggest expectations for this, but it turned out to be a really strong biopic.
Claire Danes' spot-on performance as Grandin and the craft of the film enhances your typical biopic formula and really makes you get immersed in her mind and see the world through her eyes. Beautifully assembled overall and a great watch.
David Strathairn is da man.
Temple: Die Natur ist grausam, aber wir müssen nicht grausam sein.
تمپل: طبیعت بی رحمه ولی ما مجبور نیستیم بی رحم باشیم
autistic queen! more movies about autistic women please. minus one star because I'm sensitive about animal content and there was too much sad cow stuff for my little human heart
