Bryan Cranston plays an astronaut in this film, just like Tom Hanks did in Apollo 13. Hanks plays a character called Mr. White, just like Cranston would later do in Breaking Bad.
This prompted a Keanu style, "whoa!"

Gosh. So cute. Tom Hanks knocked it out of the park with this snappy rock 'n' roll comedy set in the aftermath of Beatlemania. Appreciated its loving glance towards Jazz. Great casting, especially Steve Zahn as Lenny. Charisma for days.
Ohhhhh I loved so so so many things about this! What a treat!
The perfect vanilla boy I’d never seen before and will never see again, a song so catchy I was thrilled when it played ~15 times and would have loved it to play 15 more, every smart Beatles joke that never poked too much fun at anyone, the perfect depiction of fame-induced euphoria (both for those consuming it *and* the ones experiencing it), the cherry-red suits that look divine on absolutely everyone, the sunglasses, the hair, the way Liv Tyler communicates how good a kiss is by the movement of her eyebrows, that final conversation that had me YELPING with glee. More! Give me more movies like this one!
Four things:
1) I was born in Erie, PA where this is set
2) I’ve lived in Orange, CA where this was filmed
3) The Tom Hanks extended cut features 80% more Charlize Theron
4) The Tom Hanks extended cut also (further) reveals that Tom Hanks’ character is gay you’re welcome
Tom Hanks casting someone who looks exactly like young Tom Hanks to play the lead here makes this movie, essentially, Tom Hank’s Gemini Man—but the whole reason it works is because That Thing You Do is a truly good and catchy and perfect song!!! the ending is also incredible and forces us to realize that this is actually Lamarr’s movie. I am ok with that!
