Not terrible, but I would have liked it better if he had used more accounting-related puns when he killed people. “You know what I’m about to depreciate? Your life.” <BOOM>

This is a movie for DADS all around the world take your FATHER to go see this and he'll have a GREAT DAD TIME.
Judging by some of the reviews floating around for The Accountant, as the father of two autistic children it looks as though I'm supposed to be offended and / or horrified by this film.
The presentation of Ben Affleck's crack accountant / lethal weapon as an autistic superhero has apparently not sat well with a few people. But if you're coming into a Hollywood blockbuster expecting it to be a sensitive portrayal of the disorder, then you're looking in all the wrong places.
Indeed, to counter some of the inevitable outrage (which hasn't been widespread, in fairness), I'd say it's somewhat incorrect to completely dismiss a lot of the acts that Affleck portrays in this film as being completely unrealistic…
For all the talk of sequels, reboots, and live-action remakes, it can be comforting to be confronted with the occasional reminder that Hollywood is still capable of surprising us. Case in point: “The Accountant,” a new Warner Bros. action movie in which Ben Affleck plays an ass-kicking autistic man who travels the globe under a series of aliases and performs elite maths for some of the world’s most dangerous people. This is a real thing starring real people and made with real money (although not very much of it, as the film’s $40 million budget pales in comparison to the $175 million that the same studio recently spent on the production of “Suicide Squad”).
And though — or perhaps because…
not quite the trashterpiece i was hoping for but idk this muscular, 90s crime pulp Michael Clayton did it for me. o'connor and mcgarvey are lean & assured, affleck is strangely nuanced, and its take on autism and familial failure is surprisingly sensitive (?). haven't yet figured out if the climactic ~twist~ is moronic or genius but my guess is it's probably both.
Not sure the world really needs autisploitation movies, but the premise of a book-cooking account who doubles as a killer with training in Indonesian martial arts.... well, folks, I'm only human. I can't resist that. Never better than when he's accounting, though, which is not what you'd expect.

For me, Gavin O'Connor is one of those directors I love to watch. His previous film "Warrior" was one of the best films of the last decade and his new film "The Way Back" is currently…
A perfectly measured amount of sincerity, sensitivity, muscle and awareness make The Accountant a blast of a film, with a real standout performance from the eternally underappreciated Affleck at it's center. Gavin O'Connor clearly knows how to make an entertaining flick, and it's stellar cast only made him better. Awesome stuff that is really presented perfectly.
