Backwater is doomed by the regular visits of the undertaker and its dwellers blame a tramp.
Unique animations, gritty atmosphere and a hell of a finale.
Of course I liked it.
Not Quite Hoop-Tober: Day 21
Triple feature: YouTube shorts – part 3
This is a strange and unique darkly comedic horror short. A religious town with a single agnostic miscreant finds itself under the shadow of the undertaker, but its efforts to cleanse itself have tragically ironic consequences. The animation style here is incredible creative: it doesn't look like anything else I've seen before, and has its own distinct sense of style. Its idiosyncrasies also extend to its tone, which oscillates from light to dark on a dime and may feel inconsistent for some viewers. Nonetheless I found it wholly rewarding, and its singular visuals make it an undeniable treat.

Existence of backwater proves... even the ocean can't keep all the chaos of river silently graved within.
How cool is that undertaker?
Part of the Twelve Days of Moviemas Challenge
I really love this one. This is one of those shorts I wish was turned into a feature. The Backwater Gospel is a disturbing, creepy, and biting satire of organized religion, complete with catchy folk songs, split-second imagery, and some of the most disturbing gore I've seen in a while.
There isn't much more to say about it, other than you really should experience it in all it's gory glory.
Just beware...The Undertaker's comin'....
3 down, 75 to go.
March Horror 2022, day 18, challenge #28 - animated
This was awesome!! Loved the animation, the music, this is an entire vibe. Death is not the villain! Death is inevitable; fear (and being a dick to people) is optional. A death-positive, and anti-using religion to spread fear message? yes please! Also if you're religious isn't the reward in the afterlife the point?? What's the matter, afraid you're actually going to Hell? I'm just saying, this might be a documentary in Texas (sorry Texas, but I've seen your work).
Really good stuff, it's on youtube, cupcake recommended!
I really dug this. It’s perfectly creepy, just the way I like my horror. And the animation is unique, but familiar in some ways so really liked that. It’s a bloody short, but well worth a watch. The rainbow at the end is just the icing on the cake.
Whoa. I was not expecting that. What started out kind of silly took a huge turn for worse and become very dark and brutal--a very startling, surprising turn of events. The animation looked pretty different to what I've seen, as the characters looked like they were made out of various wooden blocks.
Sinister and twisted. I like it.
