THE BEACH BUM isn't just the funniest movie i've seen in a long time, it's also final boss McConaughey, where he reveals his true form for the world to see — if he dropped dead tomorrow you'd feel like he accomplished everything he was sent to this earth to do. he's going to be so fucking excited when he learns that he's in this.
also congratulations in advance to Martin Lawrence, a surefire nominee for the first annual Phoenix Buchanan Memorial Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Movie Too Good for the Oscars. there's a scene involving a dolphin tour that… i mean… they should have sent a poet.
Might be my fave of the year so far. Geniunely funny. Isla Fisher and Jonah Hill are perfect. Harmony is trying very cool things with dialogue coverage. And Benoit Debie’s 35mm cinematography should be celebrated.
35 mm (Kodak Vision3 250D 5207, Vision3 500T 5219) with Lomo Lenses.
Really wish this did better in theaters. In my opinion, this film is better than Spring Breakers and deserved the same love and recognition.

trying to brainstorm a professional and respectful way to say that isla fisher ripping a giant bong on the patio of an oceanfront miami mansion while getting her pussy ate by matthew mcconaughey is, in this reporter’s opinion, Important and Awesome. failing spectacularly
A sensitive and rich adaptation of Matthew McConaughey's police report from that time he was arrested for playing bongos naked while stoned

The Beach Bum begins near the water, its shallow shores shimmering against the reflection of the divide of the earth and the sea. A white kitten meows in fear as she blends in with the box she has chosen to position herself on top of. A personal queen of her domain. Enter: Moondog - an ultimate Matthew McConaughey caricature played by McConaughey *himself*. He picks up the cat and takes her home. They're best friends. The precious stray watches over him like a calming spirit as he passes out in front of the fridge, PBR gushing out of a exploded can. It's heaven, for Moondog and for me. The whole movie is like this. It mumbles in the midst…
Getting the image of Snoop Dogg in a hot tub with a GIANT bowl of cereal tattooed across my chest.
Very funny and almost deliberately not much else. Entirely lacks the acid of SPRING BREAKERS or the demented fear of TRASH HUMPERS in favor of a weirdly bleak stoner comedy about a man who fails upward so much that he even fails to self destruct. A complete joke, sometimes too much of a complete joke. Mileages will definitely vary but this is also dangerously close to the sort of thing that will be loved simply because it's so meme-able.
I didn't know Harmony Korine could make such a chill, good-natured hangout movie
If you don't think the beach bum is the best movie of the last ten years you minunderstsnd the great american chakra that is Florida.
My brother always puts this on to de-stress. It's just a colorful party with care free vibes and really not much else, but it works for Beach Bum.

not good. dont have much to add that hasn't already been covered by the other negative reviewers of this film on here
An interesting look at the life of carefree stoner and writer, Moondog (played by Matthew McConaughey), “The Beach Bum” is very much a character study without a lot of moment to moment happening in terms of actual narrative. I don’t necessarily think is is a bad thing for this particular film, and it gives the viewer a more in depth look at who Moondog is as a person because of it.
There’s a lot of insane moments all brought to life by great performances from the leads and the side characters. There’s a lot of faces you’ll recognize such as Martin Lawrence, Zac Efron, Jonah Hill, Jimmy Buffett, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, and several more faces you’ll recognize. Overall not a bad way to spend a movie night, with an insightful and funny look at a man who takes in life one puff at a time and doesn’t see things the way everyone else seems to.
A bunch of stars clearly having a blast. No lessons learned, debauchery prevails. Just a wild nonsensical ride.
