Composed of film excerpts and elaborate dramatic re-creations, Varda's self-portrait recounts the highs and lows of her professional career, the many friendships that affected her life and her longtime marriage to cinematic giant Jacques Demy.

agnès varda is an artist in every single form, but what makes her so special is she makes being an artist feel possible. everything in her life either turns into art, or she is able to construct art in a way that she can physically live inside of it. some artists make creating seem intimidating & it almost deters you from attempting. but agnès shows us how she sees life, and stitches it all together, and shows us that no person is artless. we are all creating, and telling stories, and building little houses of art to be surrounded by.
"As a filmmaker, my only option was to film him in extreme close-up: his skin, his eye, his hair like a landscape, his hands, his spots. I needed to do this, take these images of him, of his very matter. Jacques dying, but Jacques still alive."

Currently crying because I never got a chance to become best friends with Miss Agnès Varda.
The loveliest of remembrances because all that is warm and funny comes along the bitter and caustic, its ultimately upbeat quality feels earned over life’s many heartbreaks.
when Agnes holds the cardboard print of Jacques Demy and makes the same face she did at his grave, it absolutely destroyed me. it had been 17 years since his death when this film came out and it still ached with every part of her soul to be reminded of him, to remember that he exists only in photographs, memories and cheap cardboard prints on beach town streets. there’s something beautiful in realising just how strong their love was, that it lasted for a lifetime and beyond, that Agnes took it with her when she eventually left this world behind too. something very special in knowing that a document of that love is preserved forever, that it continues to exist…
you couldn’t be agnes varda if you fuckin’ tried. she has more talent in her fuckin’ finger than you have in your whole fuckin’ body. so don’t even fuckin’ go there about that. all right? that’s over the fuckin’ line.
