A horse-riding samurai fights villains.
Really bad TV jidaigeki. I swear I thought it had the same composer as Flames of Blood, another bad jidaigeki from 1981, but apparently using out of place funky guitar riffs in a movie that takes place hundreds of years ago was arrived at separately by two different composers. It's a wonderful example of convergent evolution; Darwin and Stephen Jay Gould would be proud. And like Flames of Blood, the music is weirdly upbeat during what are supposed to be sad scenes. The casting is bad too. Tomisaburō Wakayama has always been a laughing stock as an action hero - the dude is fat, yet somehow always ended up playing some samurai avenger. I couldn't take Lone Wolf and Cub movies seriously because of him...well, that and they just really sucked.
