Action! - Stoning Abel Ferrara
In my Ferrara’s marathon I seem to stumble upon yet another spiritual sequel movie. Almost a horror film, this is a very emotionally challenging and disturbing account of a star's life that leads him to an apparent point of no return when his mistakes' seem to determine his tragic end.
A great deal of the movie's impact rests on the shoulders of Matthew Modine, and he delivers. Ferrara does an excellent job getting the audience to share our protagonist's anxiety, even if sometimes his over-the-top behavior irritates me. Throughout the movie, Hopper's touch enhances some of the subtle Lynchian qualities that the movie has going for it.
All in all, as a deeply psychological study of fame and mistakes, this was a really good movie despite its messy nature and its shortcomings. Definitely recommend.
