Celebrates black lives, trans lives, gays and HALLOWEEN. Anyone else feel like this was made for them???
DRAG. FILTH. HORROR. GLAMOUR.
A celebration of all things queer! And yes, Halloween is definitely queer!
It showcases drag as so much more than the box that is often pushed to the masses. Here we have drag in such a raw form, with the talents of the creators front and center. The results are awe-inspiring, sickening, and an embodiment of the literal blood, sweat, and tears that go into this art form.
This special is a reminder that drag embraces more than we tend to recognize it as. It’s gay lives, black lives, trans lives, straight lives. It’s emotional, it’s camp, it’s serious, it’s silly. I’m so grateful for The Boulet Brothers and their vision. They help me be so damn proud of being a queer horror lover.
I’m convinced the last segment edited to Orville Peck’s Dead of Night was made exclusively for me.
the visuals, the LOOKS, the ending scene with the homage to halloween 3, the stories & experiences being told... no words. a cultural reset.
Oh, by the way, if you haven’t seen this, or Dragula in general, WATCH. IMMEDIATELY. The artists on this show, this special in particular, will amaze you in the strangest and most haunting of ways. Fucking phenomenal. Love em all. Saint, Dahli, Priscilla have my heart especially.
me: fuck representation
also me: crying bc there’s a trans woman on my tv in her own house wearing her own clothes
rly rly rly good. the aesthetic of this special is so leveled up, from the big noe title cards to the soundtrack to the cinematography. unlike other drag shows i’m sure you’ve never heard of (which is to say exactly like drag IRL) on dragula drag and queerness go hand-in-hand without any question or equivocation. the winner put together three stunning looks that all felt authored by the same queen - her voice totally shined thru and i think from the first challenge it was obvious who was gonna win hehe.
also the queens getting to tell their stories felt v authentic and emotional. bit different from ru extracting trauma stories for his podcast ☺️
the ending sequence homages halloween 3 & is set to an orville peck song ... v strong. i’m a faggot
I decided to make room for this reality TV competition + documentary + short form spooky performance art showcase on my Hooptober list because I’m thrilled Dragula is at long last inching into pop culture’s spotlight at large, from humble beginnings as an extremely low budget YouTube series to landing on Netflix and scoring this Shudder exclusive special. I’ve been a fan of drag competition programs since 2013, and while (for better or for worse) RuPaul’s Drag Race is the gold standard, The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula is both Drag Race’s evil twin, yet also in a lane all its own. Its three tenets, after all, are FILTH, HORROR, GLAMOR - and in addition to purposely nasty and subversive themes and…

This was such a nice special! Surprisingly emotional and inspiring! So happy with the outcome and I hope they do a full resurrection season and invite all of these contestants back!
absolute GOD-TIER talent onscreen and off. if and when the boulets do a full all stars competition it will be the greatest season of television ever produced and i’m not exaggerating
SLASHTOBER 2020 - No. 61
I literally got Shudder for this. I’m so glad I did. I really enjoyed this. I was so excited to see Saint, Priscilla and Victoria again. I loved the grainy shots of the Boulet Brothers standing in the streets, outside the contestants houses in murky silhouettes. Dragula has always had incredible atmosphere and mood. Every episode starts off with a mini horror movie and this docu/movie isn’t any different, rather they are peppered throughout. The floor shows are spread even across the runtime with big bold blood red title cards before each start. It’s just so stylish. I love the music choices for the floor shows as well. It’s really amazing to see how all…
