A non stop assault of absolute insanity. Loads of blood, bile and pus... with skeleton bats, flesh ripping, spiders, needles, venom, crocodiles, eyeballs, flying heads, and so much more... all never ceasing to amaze—fantastical wonders that, in secret, must have made every Italian gore master (combined) nervously sweat and say “ohhhh shit”. Also, through all the muck and slime there is a message here—this thing definitely has something to say.

The Boxer's Omen is pure madness on celluloid! I can't thank Chris Purdie enough for recommending this to me. This is everything I could ever want in a film. Here is a paragraph of some things you'll see in The Boxer's Omen because my brain can't construct proper sentences at the moment...

the amount of times I’ve been told to watch The Boxer’s Omen and my stubborn ass just waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect day to experience what I now know is beyond incomprehensible black magic Shaw Brothers utter-fucking-perfection in film form. a mental and visual assault to the membrane. Dazzling vomit disgustingness and bubbling pink goo to melt your eyeballs right into your lap. this shit is fucking WILD and it never lets up. Reincarnated monks and their black magic rituals, turning all things supernatural on its head— holding it together is a brotherly vengeance story and a classic tale of good vs. evil.

When I read up on The Boxer's Omen, I came across words like bizarre, madness, insanity, etc. So, when it was time to put the movie on, I was pretty confident I knew what to expect. But let me tell you, nothing could have ever prepared me for how utterly B O N K E R S this movie truly is!
Flying disembodied heads, wizards devouring animal intestines, regurgitation magik, rotting corpses crawling with maggots, the use of a gutted crocodile as a vessel for a mummy, etc, etc..
I feel like this is the movie I was always headed for in my quest for the ultimate brain melt experience.

OK after experiencing this once in a lifetime, bat ship crazy, transcendental trip, there is just one thing which doesn't sit with me, as I find it a tad unbelievable.
Why do you turn up to a dirty and dusty warehouse for a fight wearing white?
Maybe it is just me as everything else makes sense, but that I find a bit unrealistic.....
If boxing films focused more on revenge, Buddhist prophecies, and black magic battles instead of actual boxing, they'd be better. Luckily for us, we have a film that does just that, and it's called The Boxer's Omen. It's an explosion of religious iconography and some of the most dizzying, bizarre, gross-out horror you could ever hope to see. I couldn't tell you everything that happened if I tried, let alone what it all meant, but I can say to you with the utmost certainty that I loved every moment of it.

Probably the goopiest movie ever concocted. New high-definition transfer from Arrow Video finally allows this ritualistic gross-out classic to shine. Horror mysticism at its most disgusting. By the third-act, so much is happening and transforming and transcending that you might fail to notice that someone has their skin ripped off until they're merely a husk of a circulatory system. And then after that, they start giving birth! Should be considered just as definitive of a midnight movie as Eraserhead and Night of the Living Dead.
I just came here to watch a boxing revenge flick, but I ended up getting male bodily fluids sprayed all over me instead.
“Boxer’s,” from director Kuei Chih-Hung, is a release from Hong King’s Shaw Brothers Studio, also behind iconic kung fu flicks like “36th Chamber of Shaolin” and “Come Drink with Me.” Films that pushed the boundaries of action cinema’s taste and format; but none… quite to this extent.
The movie starts in a way similar to a hundred kung fu entries before. A Hong Kong boxer embarks on a quest to revenge his brother, who becomes paralyzed after a rigged fight.
Then… a glowing, floating omen appears, and things get… messy.
Ten minutes in, some guy’s flesh bubbles…
It's not the fresh chicken ass, rotten banana peel, or regurgitated durian that makes the girl: it's the bitchin' skull ring.

Es bleib dabei, wer völlig überdrehtes Asien Kino sehen will mit Effekten die auf „The Thing“ Niveau sind, bekommt hier alles und mehr geboten was jemals den Magen oder die Kauleiste versüßt hat, nebst Effekten die so liebevoll wie zuckersüß sind und jedem Freund von handgemachter Arbeit, ein Herzchen in die Äuglein brennt.

Treffen sich zwei Brüder aus Honkong, nicht Bernard oder Luke Shaw, sondern die Shaw-Brothers. Der eine sagt zum anderen:
„Ich habe eine Idee zu einer Handlung ohne Handlung.“
Antwortet der andere Bruder:
„Klingt prima.“
So treffen sich eines sonnigen Tages viele Schnürbärte und einer gar mit Stirnband in einem Mönchskloster in Bangkok - Thailand. Lieferanten karren daraufhin eine Wagenladung Plüsch, Kleber, Glibber, Plastik, Kunststopf, Schläuche und noch viel Gipps neben noch mehr Plüsch, Kleber, Glibber, Plastik, Kunststopf, Schläuche und Gipps.
Die ebenfalls anwesenden Shaw-Brothers reiben sich die Hände, nicken freudig und erwartungsvoll und klatschen in die Hände. Sagt der eine zum anderen:
„Das wird ein Fest.“
Antwortet der andere Bruder:
„Ein großes Fest. Und was für ein großes Fest.“…
