Go behind the scenes with stars, puppeteers and creators as they bring Jim Henson's magical world of Thra back to life in a sweeping fantasy series.
i finished watching the show which is absolutely amazing and beautiful and so i immediately jumped into this making of documentary.
it’s insane and beautiful each tiny detail creates such a beautiful show, the intricacy of the puppetry, the movement, the art department, the sculpting, brian froud,, just everything is so amazing and i’m obsessed with watching the processes of it all, it’s just so wonderful.
anyway everyone should watch the dark crystal: age of resistance and this companion documentary immediately or your essence will be given to the skeksis !
A fine companion piece to a literal 10/10 production. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a must see for anyone who has a passion or love for creativity and storytelling. This documentary helps bring to light the sheer confidence behind this project and honestly, it's infectious.
As a wannabe content creator myself, the more I learn about creativity, the more I realize it relies near entirely on confidence. Man, I wish that were a pill I could take in the morning, but I'll do my best!

“It’s a world view about collaboration and unity and people coming together for the greater good.”
i’m so full of love and admiration for this show and the documentary puts into words what my still jumbled thoughts struggled to express. it’s the stuff that dreams are made of and i feel like an 8th grader again, reading one high fantasy tome after the other wherever and whenever i could in order to experience the ultimate escapism.
Age of Resistance is an “under-your-blanket-with-your-flashlight” kinda story, a whole world of ideas and immense knowledge to consume and it keeps on giving until its very last minute and far beyond that. a breath of life that will continue to sustain me, nourish me…
You know if you're going to put documentaries about the show on Letterboxd you might as well put the actual show on Letterboxd
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is literally probably on of my favorite shows of all time. The story is great, the voice acting is breathtaking, and the puppetry is really really amazing.
This documentary that was made as they made the show is a great companion piece. It is just 80 or so minutes of people talking about puppetry, which is perfect. I am fascinated by puppets so I had so much fun watching the series and this doc. Anyway go watch the movie, then the series, then this.
I'm aware that I'm a month late for this, but I finally watched Dark Crystal: AoR and its just phenomenal. Really improves on the original film with better world-building, fleshed out characters and excellent puppetry and visual effects. So it goes without saying that the behind the scenes documetnary Netflix released along with the show is on par. Goes to show how much creativity and hard work went into this show. Jim Henson would be proud.
OKAY y'all i need to talk about the dark crystal: age of resistance.
this show is spectacular. like i'm talking about one of the most creative, fantastical, and thought through show i have ever seen. going into the show i was hoping i'd like it, but i didn't really have high expectations or anything.
just after the first episode ended i was in shock. i was SO incredibly excited because i knew that this was gonna be a new all-time favorite show of mine.
i don't think i've ever seen a show where you can just tell that the people who made it and everyone else involved truly loves it, and loved making it. every single aspect of…
Rating is for the Show!
Yesterday, I watched the last Episode and it left me with a big, bright Smile.
What a brilliant Piece of Art these People created!
I really love the Film, it's a timeless Fantasy Classic and the Show knows, how to keep the Magic in this whole World.
The Setdesigne, the Puppets, all of the Effects are just undiscribeable.
Watch "The Dark Crystal - Age of Resistance", it's one of the most Unique and beautiful Things ever created by Mankind.
Fantasy isn't dead.
A really interesting behind the scenes feature that shows just how everything came together to make one of the single coolest things I've ever seen. You know how in most documentaries like this when the people say, "you've seen nothing like this before" and the movie is usually really bland? Not here- these people are in complete awe and amazement by what they are looking at- this is a marvel and something completely new. Only issue with this behind the scenes look is that I wish I got 3 more hours of it, I'd love to see a much more detailed look at this work of art. Release an art book please I'll be at Barnes and Noble day 1.
This review is a dual review. This is going to be a review of both the series "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" and the accompanying documentary on the making of the series.
A prequel to the classic 1982 fantasy-adventure that is mostly comprised of characters portrayed by puppets created by Jim Henson, "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" takes place before the events of the movie when the planet Thra finds itself ground zero of a rebellion against the Skeksis, sparked by three Gelflings: castle guard Rian (voiced by Taron Egerton), Vapra princess Brea (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy) & animal caretaker Deet (voiced by Nathalie Emmanuel) after they discover a horrifying secret behind their power that threatens all of Thra.…
Wow! Can we please organize a standing ovation for this show?
The work that went into every detail is astounding. I don't have any words to describe how beautiful it is. It sparks your inner child and sucks you instantly into that vibrant world.
This is puppetry on a complete other level. Jim Henson would've been very proud of it. He created a world that was long overdue of another visit and I really want to go back again.
Of course I was talking about the show. But the documentary is also worth checking out. Because the behind the scenes looks of these sets will blow your mind! And they build like 80 of them!!!
listen Netflix, we both know that there's so much more behind the scenes footage... just give us more and then we can talk.
The show itself was only average, but it is amazing what they can do with puppets with limited CGI. The documentary didn't talk finances, but I am curious of the cost and payback for Netflix.
(Rating is for the Making of Documentary only. go watch The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance!!)
Watching the making of gave me such a headache. I can’t wrap my head around the scale of this project and the planning that would go into this. It showcases the artistry beautifully. You immediately understand this has been a passion project for everyone involved. That being said, I would’ve loved to have seen more in depth commentary by the various artists, not so much by the Netflix executives.
A fascinating, interesting and intriguing behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. If you liked/loved the television show I think this documentary is an essential viewing.
If you love the world of the Dark Crystal, check this out. It gives so much credit to the puppeteers and everyone else in production design where credit is long overdue. Very cool to see the development of the series.
I like, personally, to look into the revival of mediums that don’t get love anymore by utilising aspects of modern inventions and pure passion for the project. I loved seeing the puppeteers embrace the intense work load, I liked seeing behind the production process probably because I’m an animator so it’s nice to know that CGI can even be used in these projects, as well as 2D concept animation. I loved it 10/10 very insightful.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance ★★★★★
Eu me apaixonei por esta serie e estou extremamente triste com a falta de um episódio final.
Small review:
After finishing the show, I took a look here. As a big Dark Crystal fan, it was amazing seeing all the practical work put in here. The puppets are amazing, and the voice acting is incredible. My only complaint with this documentary is that there wasn't a lot of emphasis on the voice cast, who still really shine. It was a fun look at a good show.
9/10.
i finished watching the series the day it was released and it’s still one of my favs.
