The Curse of Frankenstein is handsomely made with some great sets and costume designs. It’s cinematography is also quite good, truly leaning into that gothic aesthetic that Hammer is known for.
Peter Cushing is incredible in the role of Victor Frankenstein, lending a truly manic and scary obsession to the role, and truly leaning into a villainous aspect that he relishes in.
Where the movie kind of falters for me is with the monster. The film is more Frankenstein’s story than the monster of course, but when the monster IS there, there isn’t much of an impression left.
But overall I really enjoyed this film, and while I prefer Horror of Dracula thus far, this is a solid opening for their Frankenstein franchise.
