I'm getting pretty sick of this streak of self-conscious trauma-as-horror horror.
Bleak. Deliberately paced, consumed with suppressed grief, and better than I expected it to be... especially since I had zero expectations and didn’t even see a trailer. Definitely dark, wicked, and emotionally draining doom n gloom as per recent misery movie atmos so I’d say tread accordingly if that’s not your bag or if you’re tired of that sort of thing.
I feel like people are going to really love this or absolutely hate this.

Very wicked! I was told it was a slow burn but I didn’t see it that way. Subtle at times but the pacing adds to the horror! Many disturbing scenes. Not really gorie but plenty of of blood. Wish there was a reason for it all but maybe I missed something but it is still entertaining. Check it out on Shudder.

“Because you were home” is still a chilling phrase twelve years later. Bryan Bertino burst onto the horror scene with The Strangers, a divisive film but one exploring a real fear: home invasion. Bertino’s latest horror film as writer and director, The Dark and the Wicked, is also about a home invasion. While the intruders aren’t killers wearings marks, a family on a secluded farm is still plagued by someone or something hell-bent on killing them. But unlike the protagonists in The Strangers, this family, no matter how hard they try, cannot hide or defend themselves because what has invaded their home is something they can’t see. It’s not only evil in human form that preys at night.

A joyless affair that has at least one effective jump scare but thinks it is brooding when it is really boring.
By the end you wonder why you wasted your time.
I swear to god if I ever see another "eLeVaTeD" horror film that's an allegory for grief, trauma or some sort of mental illness again I'll fucking slit my own throat.
Too many horror cliches, no character development, descent jump scares and lame story.
The levitating old lady was literally the only interesting part of this film. But yea I can say it's pretty atmospheric. It was okay👌
