Unmentioned in reviews I'd seen is the peculiar 70s community, even world, of lesbian entomologists all takes place in. When the filmed tension relented for pretty and clever fx/optics around the "moth to the flame" theme, I drifted to what kind of economy could support this.
The narrative arc seemed a bit truncated. One dilemma, which grows until a character breaks character, but which is resolved without further anguish. Others may approve, as it didn't overstay its welcome, but I could have spent more time in this world.
Sidse Babett Knudsen is brilliant here (as in Westworld). I'll be seeking her prior work and looking forward to her appearance in In Fabric.
