If Kasper had an iPad down in that cellar he would have turned out just fine. Instead he turned out boring like a stupid old person.
In The Enigma of Kasper Hauser, the young Hauser is raised in one room with only one toy, for the first seventeen years of his life. He is eventually unloaded onto a town and forced to adjust, before facing extreme circumstances from an unlikely source. I understand the merits of this film I just find it to be an incredibly boring watch that, given the theme of alienation, ironically alienates the audience with its boringness. I wanted to feel Hauser's suffering and isolation more but instead I just watched it happen and never felt connected.
I'm a Herzog fan but I don't think I would recommend this.
