Hollywood pretty much peaked here, didn't it? A natural progression (evolution, ha!) of the machine after the success of Jurassic Park the previous year. What amazes me about The Flintstones is the level of commitment that went into every detail of production design and costumes. Fucking well done, people. If there's one thing I love it's a cartoon dinosaur that is live action and also completely realistic. I would give anything for Dino to be real and to be able to pet him, to love him as a girl and her dinosaur friend should.
If you're seeking perfection, look no further than the Flintstones movie. I don't have the wherewithal to get into the themes of class struggle but cosmetically…

It feels like Rick Moranis went method here and imagining what that would entail is more fun than watching this
As in the original TV show, this film is singlemindedly focused on answering only one question: What if modern things were made of rocks? Nevertheless, I enjoyed revisiting this more than I expected to. Nowadays Bedrock would probably be rendered through garish CGI, so it’s kinda fun to watch a movie where real actors are constantly interacting with gigantic, cartoony-looking styrofoam rocks. There’s a lot of good Jim Henson puppet design, too. Also, this comes from a glorious time when John Goodman star vehicles were as common as blades of grass. In recent decades they have become rare and precious commodities, so it was great to spend so much time with the big guy here.
Just based on Art Department and Wardrobe alone, how could anyone give this less than three stars? Every detail is perfect, I appreciate this movie so much.

Fun set design. Lots of Jim Henson dinosaur puppets. The cast is great.
You get to see the four jokes the show was built on (A Honeymooners parody, puns, using vehicles with your feet, and appliances that are animals) many many many many times. The decision to make Fred Flintsone be at odds with Barney for the entire picture is not a good one, but I hope they ended up unionizing by the end. The best gag is Fred Flintstone going "I gotta think of something!" in the climax and then a thought bubble pops up of his mother-in-law Elizabeth Taylor being eaten by a dinosaur - a very Simpsons style gag that could have come from Simpsons Director David Silverman, who was briefly one of the writers.
I love that the only returning cast member in the sequel was Irwin Keyes.
