  Totally charming and fascinating to see how Vorlíček is able to channel the anarchic energy of Who Wants to Kill Jessie? while also towing the government-mandated line. Sabrina is cool and all, but I'll take Saxana any day (or risk being turned into a bunny).

  Da die junge Hexe Saxana keine Lust auf 300 Jahre Nachsitzen hat, zaubert sie sich schnell für 48 Stunden in die Menschenwelt, genauer in die Tschechoslowakei der 70er Jahre.

  Drollige Fantasy-Jugendkomödie mit ein paar erstaunlich guten Tricks und einer durchgehend lockeren Handlung. Vor allem die Jungdarsteller gefallen. Aus der goldenen Zeit der tschechoslowakischen Filmschmiede werden hier die Märchenelemente nebst derer Ausstattung mit der (damaligen) Moderne verbunden. Da die 70er heutzutage selbst schon historisch wirken, verstärkt dies noch die Besonderheit dieser launigen Komödie, die einen Blick wert ist.

  This is the movie about a school of witchcraft and wizardry that you've never heard of. Probably because it's the only one the mass media hasn't been relentlessly trying to shove down your throat while filching all your money for the last 20 years or so. But when the Czechs have a tilt at this kind of material, be prepared for something completely different. Especially when the Czech in question is the inimitable Václav Vorlíček, whose output of surreal, playful, fantastical comedies I am becoming a massive fan of.

  Goofy Czech teen witch romp that feels like an American sitcom like Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie with an Eastern bloc budget. Lots of broad humor and slapstick visual gags and comedic mixups in flat apartments and archaic'n'crumbling town squares. Even at barey 70 minutes The Girl on the Broomstick can feel a little sluggish and overlong. Many scenes creep oddly quiet and crawl slack to the next softball set piece.  But the movie casts a lil spell with some imaginative shoestring special effects sequences, a bunch of rabbits, some freaky magick monster peopleoids, tite ‘70s fantasia fashions, Cold War teen bedroom ephemera, and a dynamite lead witch performance. A low key pleasant and charming way to spend an hour!

  This is such a great children's/teen movie. My mom grew up on it in the 70s and so did I in the 2000s. Both of us still like to watch it because no matter what age you are, I promise you're gonna have a good time with this movie. It's so cute and heartwarming and also very creatively made that you really can't dislike it unless you have a heart of stone. And the production value is pretty high for a European film from 1972, so that's no argument for not watching it.

  Saxana is the ultimate teenage witch for me and a style icon too. I would kill for her bat necklace. And her class of witches is my ultimate Halloween squad goal. I should dress up as her or one of the other witches someday.
