  on the one hand, it's like THE LAST OF US!

  Okay, this is probably going to be one of those ‘I just saw the movie recently so my opinion is still ridiculously over-inflated’ sort of write-ups, so please bear that in mind.

  Several years ago, I quit playing videogames but one of the last games that I played was The Last of Us which was an especially impressive post-apocalyptic zombie survival title. As far as gameplay went, it was actually repetitive and boring, but what was great about this particular game, was the heart-warming story and the wonderfully rich environment it created.   Adored the book it was based on. I respect the adaptation, which isn't too slavish, but is very true to the novel. The actors are perfect for the characters. The zombies are effective and creepy. And above all, the story is a really daring surprise that takes a tired genre in a new direction.

  In recent years, zombies have virtually saturated the horror market with multiple movies, television shows and games. They’ve now become almost commonplace and have certainly lost some of their previous unique appeal.

  So heading into The Girl With All the Gifts, I was only mildly interested. I knew that it featured some sort of zombie apocalypse but the title made it sound different so I thought I’d give it a go.

  It opens with an immediately intriguing setup.

  HEY Y'all. My peeps and peepettes. So when asked to reach for a post-apocalyptic zombie title recently.....heyyy yaaa. The Girl with All the Gifts. I haven't been watching new shit so much, just sharing what I know with others and rewatching these pleasure gems. This is one of them.

  It all started with a conversation of the show The Walking Dead and this is what came out of my collection. Suck my dick Rick and your repetitive storylines.

  What a beautiful entry. Sacrifice gore for story. Carnage for suspension. Effects for characters. This is the way its done. No exposition. Deal with it. And its beautiful.

  This movie is a great example of being rewarded for going into a movie totally blind.

  I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this is a "running zombie" flick, which seems to be my fave horror subgenre going by my personal favorite horror list. This makes the 5th entry from that subgenre on that list. 😆

  [There's something about running zombies specifically that just creeps me the fuck out. Think about it - there's no reasoning or negotiating with them. They're mindless, relentless, and inherently disgusting beings that are determined to do only one thing - hunt you down and consume you. *shudders*]

  Anyway, The Girl with All the Gifts is simply fascinating. I really appreciate its refreshingly creative take…
